For as long as I can remember, design has played a major part in my life.

Growing up in the Irish countryside, I’ve always been fascinated with the built form and how it interacts with its surroundings. Initially my love of landscape design resulted in being offered a position at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Dublin, to study Horticulture and Landscape Design. However, my passion for residential design won out in the end and I successfully completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Technology at Napier University Edinburgh. Over the past 14 years I have lead Health, Education and Residential projects for several multinational architectural firms based in the UK and Australia. In January 2016 I established my own firm BOX Design Studio, to focus solely on bespoke residential projects that are client focused and environmentally sustainable. I work closely with my clients and their design brief to produce practical contemporary solutions that fit within budget. I am respectful of a building’s history and aim to maximise light and space, creating where possible a seamless indoor/outdoor aesthetic. I understand the time constraints that people face balancing their work/home life whilst managing finances. This is where BOX Design Studio fits in. I offer a full range of architectural services that can be adapted to your needs and aim to take the stress out of the design and build process. Ashfield 1.0 — Peeling back time.

During the design stage, detailed surveying revealed a treasure trove: hidden external brick walls and long-lost window openings concealed by years of renovation. These architectural ghosts are now stepping back into the spotlight, reimagined as part of the new external elevation.

A fresh chapter, built on the bones of history.

Surry Hills 2.0 - From a dark, underutilized storage space to a breathtaking wine cellar/ rumpus room, this project showcases how thoughtful design can work harmoniously with existing structures.

Design Highlights:

The original kauri pine floorboards, hidden for decades, were carefully uncovered and celebrated as a stunning ceiling feature preserving the charm of the building's history.

A sleek glass floor panel was introduced, inviting natural daylight from above and creating a dynamic connection between levels.

This transformation is a testament to the power of working within the building’s footprint, blending functionality with heritage character while ensuring a sustainable, creative approach.

The first stair tread mirrors the elegant shape of the Victorian hallway archway, kitchen island, and green roof skylight. This thoughtful design element creates a seamless blend within its heritage context.

A delicate touch where old meets new. The original kauri Pine flooring was retained & beautifully restored. The American oak stair treads compliment the original flooring. A glass floor planel allows light to flood the basement level below.

A delicate touch where old meets new. The original Victorian archway has been beautifully retained & restored. The steel staircase with concealed stringer & American oak treads allows an abundance of light to flow seamlessly between levels.

Ashfield 1.0 - DA Approved by Inner West Council! 🏡✨

This heritage item single-storey Queen Anne-style dwelling was given the green light by the Inner West Council.

This project features the meticulous restoration of the principal building, along with a stunning new two-storey rear addition.

The council required this addition to be discreetly designed so it's not visible from the front street, preserving the heritage charm.

Highlights:

Expansive open plan living, dining, and kitchen area

A spacious master bedroom with ensuite on the first floor, all nestled under a breathtaking cathedral ceiling

Outdoor landscaped dining area with separate parking
