Chair Yoga for Seniors Chair Yoga takes traditional yoga poses and adapts them for the chair. There is no getting on the floor.

Our students are taken through exercises such as sun salutations and downward dogs, all from a seated position.

This week's chair yoga pose is the seated side twist with raised leg. It has several functional benefits for seniors
* Improves ability to rotate and reach
Mimics daily activities, such as turning to reach something or look behind, enhancing functional movement patterns.

* Safe spinal movement in a supported position
The chair offers stability, making it accessible to even those with balance issues or limited mobility.

Avoid this pose if you have recent back, hip, or abdominal injuries, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, or dizziness—always twist gently and stay within a pain-free range.

A yoga-inspired core and mobility exercise that combines spinal rotation, balance, and core engagement. To maximise benefits: * Inhale to lengthen your spine, * Exhale as you twist, * Keep the lifted leg active and spine tall, * Avoid forcing the twist — aim for length before depth.
