Stephen has led Challenge through a period of growth and transformation, strengthening the organisation while keeping the people, families and communities we serve at the centre of every decision. We thank him for his leadership, integrity and commitment to purpose.

As Stephen steps into his next chapter, Julie May has commenced as Acting CEO, ensuring continuity as Challenge continues to deliver services and progress key strategic priorities.

We're now halfway through our Voices of Youth in Care Project! πŸŽ™οΈ

This creative, youth-led project provides a platform for young people with out-of-home care experience to express their ideas, stories, and passions, not only about care, but about any issue important to them.

Our project group members have now completed their broadcasting training and are ready to start scripting and producing their podcast. Keep an ear out to hear when these incredible stories are brought to life! 🌟

Earlier in the month, our team had the privilege of being part of a free community event hosted by Women's Shelter Armidale to unveil the 'Clothesline Project'. πŸ‘•

The Clothesline Project is a visual display of t-shirts featuring the names of women and children who have lost their lives to domestic violence this year. It is a powerful reminder of how far we still have to go to eradicate gender-based violence in our communities.

As we come to the end of the year, I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone who has been part of our community in 2025 β€” our dedicated team members, collaborators, supporters, and the individuals and families we walk alongside every day.

This time of year is a powerful reminder of the importance of connection. Take time to be with loved ones, check in on one another, and stay connected to our communities. These moments of care and togetherness are at the heart of the work we do and the values we share.

This festive season, I hope you’re able to slow down, rest, and spend meaningful time with the people who matter most to you. From all of us at Challenge Community Services, I wish you a safe, joyful, and peaceful Christmas.

With Australia's social media ban for under-16s now in effect, many families are feeling a mix of relief, confusion, and concern about how young people will cope with such a significant shift in their digital lives.πŸ“±

Before assumptions or anxiety take hold, it helps to clearly understand what the ban actually involves, why it is happening, and how you can support young people through what they will feel is a major life change.

The festive season can be a time of joy and connection, but for many families, it can also be a time of increased stress.

To help you navigate the weeks ahead, we have created two practical wellbeing toolsβ€”a self-check-in guide for carers and a checklist for helping children navigate big feelings.

"Like many across Australia, we are deeply saddened by the events in Bondi last night.

Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, those who were injured, and everyone impacted. We acknowledge the bravery of first responders and community members who acted with care in the face of tragedy.

At Challenge Community Services, we believe in the strength of community β€” in looking out for one another, checking in, and standing together with compassion. In moments like this, connection and kindness matter more than ever.

To our community: please take care of yourselves and each other, and reach out if you need support."
