Beneath the canopy, the world softens into something the heart remembers. Sun rays filter through the leaves as breath becomes meditation. Silence becomes home.

YS 1:2 yogaś citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ
Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind. Patanjali didn’t start with asana, with breath, with any technique. He started with the truth: liberation comes when the mind becomes still.

When we sit in meditation, and sit with the rawness of our own consciousness, we begin to see how much noise lives within. Thoughts spinning, stories repeating, fears projecting into futures that haven’t arrived.

vṛtti, mental fluctuations keep you from experiencing what you truly are beneath the movement.

Peace is your essential nature. The whisper of stillness that lives underneath everything.

Inner work isn’t separate from the outer world. When we stop the war inside ourself, the constant criticism, the fear-based thinking, the separation between who you are and who you think you should be, we stop contributing to the war outside ourself.

We become a space of peace.

Peace radiates, it touches everyone around us, it ripples outward into a world that is struggling through violence, division, suffering, it is through our yoga practice we invite Lokāḥ Samastāḥ Sukhino Bhavantu to cultivate peace within ourself and then consciously, intentionally extend it outward. To your family. Your community.

As more & more people choose stillness over chaos, peace over fear, love over separation, we may just see a shift in our world.

Virabhadrasana III

Beneath my foot, warm, gritty earth. From above, light filtering through leaves in golden rays, and in between, silence.

There’s an ancient story woven into these warrior poses: Shiva, consumed by grief, tears a dreadlock from his head and casts it into the fire of loss. From the flames Virabhadra , the fierce warrior is born. He rises from the flames with power: warrior I. He focuses & takes aim with precision: warrior II. And then… he strikes: warrior III.

But beneath the myth is a quieter teaching.
Even in our fiercest moments, there is a pause.
A breath.
A choice.
To react from heat, or to create space.
To let breath stretch the moment between impulse and action. To discover steadiness inside the storm.

In this moment, there was a wobble.
A flicker of doubt. Then the breath arrived. One inhale opened space. One exhale rooted me deeper. And suddenly, the body knew: you are the arrow and the aim. The action and the stillness.

Peace arrives gently, like the filtering light through the leaves. It whispers through trembling muscles. It reminds you that presence is the practice.

✨Finding strength through surrender✨
Uttanasana is one of my greatest teachers, not because it’s challenging the hamstrings, but because it asks us to do something our egos resist: let go.
When we fold forward, we literally turn our world upside down. We release control. We trust gravity to do the work we cannot do through force. And in that moment of vulnerability with our head below heart & surrendering our need to see where we’re going, we find a strength that doesn’t come from pushing harder.

We live in a world that tells us strength means armor, protection, invulnerability. But yoga teaches us differently. Strength is showing up when you’re tired. It’s allowing ourselves to be held, to fold into spaces that feel confining and discover they’re actually holding us perfectly.

Where in your practice are you resisting? Where are you fighting instead of softening? What might open if you saw limitation not as restriction, but as sacred boundary?

Your practice doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be honest. Meet yourself exactly where you are today.

We’re delighted to welcome Dianne Juteram to The Shala. Beginning 8 September, Dianne will guide nourishing morning practices designed to ground, energise, and connect you to breath and body.

Weekly Morning Schedule
• Monday 6:30–7:30am – “Atha” Morning Practice
• Tuesday 6:15–7:45am – LED in the Ashtanga tradition
• Thursday 6:30–7:30am – Morning Vinyasa (Pay-What-You-Can $1–$20)
