As the rain cleared, our autumn adventure truly began. Each group discovered their own unique experience, whether it was reeling in a big catch or marveling at the majesty of the Burrawan state forest. And let's not forget the thrilling sight of jets flying overhead! It's no wonder that spending time in nature has such a profound impact on our mental health and wellbeing 🍂

Now this was a hit last year, so we thought we would go again this year.

This event is known for featuring vintage machines, including pre-'41 hot rods and motorcycles, racing along Crowdy Head Beach. The day typically begins around 9:00 am, with beach sprints and grudge matches starting at 10:00 am, depending on the tides.

Tickets are $25 online, which we can organise, otherwise $35 at the gate on the day.

You know the drill - contact us or your COS to book your spot!

WELL-BEING THROUGH NATURE

WHY SMALL GROUPS MATTER
We are sometimes asked why Ocean & Trail Escapes focuses on small groups. The answer is simple: meaningful support takes time, patience, and genuine attention.

Our goal is to help every participant reach their potential and enjoy the same opportunities as the wider community. Small groups allow us to provide the personal support, encouragement, and connection that make this possible.

Our approach is influenced by person-centred care principles, including insights from studies that highlight the powerful benefits of nature for both physical and mental well-being.

OUR OUTDOOR EXPERIENCES
We run small group day trips for four participants with two support workers, travelling in comfortable people-mover vehicles. This creates a relaxed, inclusive environment where everyone is part of the experience—no one is left out, and everyone is heard.

Our 1:2 support ratio allows us to tailor activities to individual needs while encouraging confidence, independence, and social connection.

SAFETY & DIGNITY OF RISK
Many of our adventures take place in beaches, bush tracks, and National Parks. Safety is always a priority, but we also believe in the dignity of risk.

People with disabilities deserve the same opportunities as anyone else to try new experiences, make choices, and grow through those experiences. True inclusion means supporting people to live full, meaningful lives—not limiting their opportunities.

THE POWER OF NATURE
Spending time outdoors has proven benefits for health and well-being. Research into “green and blue space” shows that time in nature can quite simply make you feel better by:
• Reduce stress and anxiety
• Improve mood and mental clarity
• Support physical health
• Strengthen social connections
• Increase overall happiness

OUR VISION
At Ocean & Trail Escapes, we believe everyone deserves the chance to enjoy nature, build confidence, and feel part of their community.
Through small groups, person-centred support, and meaningful outdoor experiences, we help participants explore, connect, and thrive.

We also offer 1:1 tailored support to help address your individual needs

How would we describe last week? Like chasing nature.
An escape through coast, rainforest and mountains. Each day brought something new and exciting, from the salty air of the coast to the cooler temperature of Gloucester Tops.

We started with the beaches of Port Macquarie, where shoes were discarded and wading in the water spotting sea hares along the beach was in. The rainforest at Sea Acres National Park was amazing as the group walked along the elevated boardwalk spotting different native rainforest plants such as birds’ nests and elkhorns.

We found an almost hidden, tranquil pond bordered by thick native bushland with a boardwalk that circles it. The pond is looked after by the local Landcare Group and is home to moorhens, lizards, turtles and ducks.

Two brave men had a go at their own style of aqua aerobics at the aquatic centre – laughing as they tried to use the water dumbbells and finishing off in the spa for a bit of relaxation after all their hard work! Whilst that was going on, another one of our new Friday men visited some art galleries in Forster.

Saturday was the big adventure at Gloucester Tops. We set out along the Antarctic Beech Forest Walking Track, stepping into a landscape that felt untouched. And so much to see, touch and smell. We went into a rocky gorge where we saw several small waterfalls crashing down over rocks covered in bright green moss, it was magical. The water was so cool and fresh that we were able to get handfuls of water and cool off. We then headed back to Gloucester River Campground, ate our lunch and went for a dip in the cold, running water of Gloucester River. So many laughs. The group worked so well together, all helping and looking out for each other and really taking in and exploring their surroundings. How many slept on the way home? Not telling!!

Another beautiful week exploring our local area. From fishing to spotting flora at Saltwater National Park and coming across a heap of soldier crabs at the creek's edge at Khappinghat Nature Reserve.

A trip to Port Macquarie and a walk along the break wall before a BBQ lunch at Lake Cathie. And a visit to a local museum - all in a week! And poor Andrew, copped yet another flat tyre!

Back again next week! And don't forget - we have some spots available on our Monday group - immediate start!
