OMG - it has taken us a week to go through all the photos we took at the Snowy Mountains last week and here are just a few. What a wonderful experience for our four participants, some who hadn't seen snow before.
True to form, it was a fully packed week of experiences, trials and tribulations. New friendships were made, new talents exposed and challenging conquests were made.
Despite this being a fun and interesting trip learning about parts of Australia, it is also challenging when you are taken outside of your comfort zone. We are so proud of the camaraderie these four young people showed each other. They showed compassion, companionship and empathy and supported each other when needed. And in the evenings, the four would have a game of Uno or watch a movie or just be so tired that they fell into bed!
Our first major stop was at Gundagai where we stopped at The Dog on a Tuckerbox. We then had a look at the town before driving down to the floodplains where the original town once stood. From there we drove out to a farm where we stayed in the old shearers quarters for a night on a 7000 acre working cattle and sheep farm.
We then travelled along the Snowy Mountain Highway stopping at Yarrangobilly Caves and Thermal Pool and then Brumby hunting. To our absolute delight we saw heaps of them with their foals. We arrived late at Jindabyne staying at an Airbnb on the lake at East Jindabyne.
We visited the Snowy Wilderness Resort where we had booked horse riding and 4WD. Unfortunately the weather was against us for the riding so everyone hoped into two 4WDs and we went Brumby hunting again. On the way home we had a surprise for the group - a visit to the local police station! We were shown their Alpine equipment of snow scooters and more. Some of the group got to sit in the police 4WD whilst others had a go at handcuffing a police officer! Thank you so much to everyone there for the tour, most appreciated.
No visit to the Snowy Mountains is complete without a chairlift ride to the top of Mt Kosciusko at Thredbo. We acknowledge that this was a little challenging for some but so proud of this huge achievement. And there was snow and snowballs to throw at the top!
Thank you to our four participants and their families for giving us the chance to show them what this beautiful country has to offer.
