This year, we mark a massive milestone — 50 years of unwavering support, advocacy, and real impact for children and young people with Language Disorder.
Since formally establishing as a charitable organisation in 1976, Language Disorder Australia has stood for one clear mission — and 50 years on, that mission remains unchanged: to educate, support and advocate for children and young people with Language Disorder, so they can connect, belong and achieve.
Over five decades, that mission has driven real-world change:
✨ We operate Mancel College (previously known as The Glenleighden School), one of the only schools in Australia entirely dedicated to supporting students with Language Disorder.
✨ Our School Support Services partner with State, Catholic and Independent schools right across Queensland, with specialist multidisciplinary teams supporting school staff to develop individualised approaches for students with Language Disorder.
✨ Our Language Disorder Academy is a training hub delivering quality educational services and resources for educators and therapists, focused on improving outcomes for students with Language Disorder.
From humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a cornerstone organisation advocating for a disability that affects thousands of Aussie kids and young people and is still widely misunderstood.
Language Disorder isn’t just about difficulty with words; it’s about navigating life, school, friendships and confidence.
To our staff, partners, families and community supporters: thank you.
Here’s to the next fifty — more voices lifted, more barriers broken, and more children and young people given the support they deserve.
❤️ Together, we’re not just celebrating a milestone, we’re celebrating connection, understanding and belonging.
