1. The Prover

šŸ‘‰ fueled by comparison, proving others wrong, working harder/longer — but confidence is fragile.

2. The Grinder

šŸ‘‰ disciplined, training body, setting goals… but ignoring the brain. Plays at the mercy of emotions.
ā€œJust be positive.ā€

3. The Dabbler

šŸ‘‰ experimenting with mindfulness, visualization, focus. Aware of nerves, but still can’t control them.
ā€œI know the tools… I just can’t use them when it matters.ā€

4. The Controller (your missing visual gap — you jump from 3 → 5)

The amount of times players defend their superstations…hear me out I’m all for routines pre-game!!! But what about if you’ve done all your lucky socks 🧦 right coloured 🩲 water bottles and labels stuff - and you miss the first two shots in game, lip the cup on a putt at the start? Or you drop your serve first up? Or heaven forbid go 0 & 0 like in the 2025 Wimbledon finals šŸŽ¾šŸŽ¾šŸŽ¾. How do your socks 🧦 help you then? Not because he didn’t care, but because he knew that if he dwelled on it, the ā€œmistakeā€ would be more costly. Beliefs are thoughts we keep on thinking šŸ¤” & they can either propel us forward or hugely hold us back! Biggest bummer of them all is - if they are limiting beliefs they can act as self fulfilling prophecies. And we prove to ourselves that our limitation is on point. That sucks and hurts performance. Most players don’t even know they have them (beliefs, limiting or not) and thus don’t know how to unwind from them. Here are a few classics I hear from the locker room! Athletes don’t need another lecture.

They don’t need more drills. More shouting. More ā€œdo it this way.ā€

They’re already drowning in input—coaches, parents, YouTube, teammates.

What they really need?
A spark.

A way to see what’s stuck without putting them on the defensive.
A way to notice what’s driving them—without overthinking or overexplaining.
A way to take ownership… because they choose to, not because you forced it.

That’s what these cards do.

They look like a game.
But what they really are is a mirror.

One simple card can reveal the hidden story that’s been running the show.
It doesn’t label or judge. It just opens a door.

I’ve seen it happen in minutes:
A high performer, exhausted after a year of ā€œpushing through,ā€ pulled The Competitor card.
She didn’t need more competitiveness—she needed to stop overusing it. And just like that, the conversation shifted. No resistance. No over-analysis. Just clarity.

This isn’t more work.

Not all mindset problems or issues are meltdowns on the court or visible on the field. For many (in my 14 yrs of experience) it’s subtle shifts in their thinking around how they manage their performance. Do they actively seek out feedback from the right people? What’s the outcome they at working towards? Do they bother with recovery? How do they speak to themselves when it’s not going their way? Has their body been injured šŸ¤• and has it left a trauma scar on the psyche. Can they create relationships? How well do they sell themselves? Pressure isn’t random. It’s a body pattern. Yes šŸ™Œ you read that right - a body one. Which isn’t random either (just by the way)

And if you don’t recognise yours, it’ll own you.

That missed free throw?
That fumble under pressure?
It’s not a random. Its remembered

It’s part of a cycle:
Body Remembering → Tensing → Slip-up → Mind Interpretation→ Self-doubt sets in
Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

The best don’t just grind harder.
They zoom out.
They notice the loop.
They practice interrupting it — on purpose.
