We know a trip to the Emergency Department can feel stressful, especially if there's a bit of a wait.
Go to https://youtu.be/9xpDwgVYFjg to watch a video explaining what happens when you arrive, how we assess patients and why care is provided based on urgency rather than arrival time.
With the Easter long weekend coming up, our Emergency Department is likely to be busier than usual. You can see how busy it is here: https://lrh.com.au/emergency-department/
Thank you for your patience and understanding as our staff work hard to care for our community. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Easter whether you're at home or away! 🐣

Visitors to the LRH High Risk Foot Clinic are now welcomed into a brighter, more inclusive space thanks to the installation of a new MediCurtain featuring artwork by Perth artist Biara Martin.

The design includes powerful symbols representing a patient’s journey to recovery, and LRH is proud to be just the second hospital in Victoria to install this curtain.

Even better, a portion of the purchase supports , an Aboriginal health organisation providing life-saving dialysis services to people living in remote communities. ❤️

Running twice each week, the High Risk Foot Clinic supports patients with diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, severe foot ulcerations, infection risk or foot deformities.

The clinic brings together a specialist team including a podiatrist, endocrinologist, diabetes nurse educator, infectious diseases doctor, wound nurse and Hospital in the Home nurse.

This helps patients access coordinated care in one place instead of multiple appointments.

High Risk Foot Clinic Coordinator Alison Lang and Hospital in the Home Acting Nurse Unit Manager Rebecca Whelan are pictured with the new curtain.

Look at these most perfect crocheted plushies from the amazing Stitch In Hope Foundation, a youth‑led global not‑for‑profit group spreading comfort, joy and kindness one stitch at a time.
These beautiful toys were lovingly created by one of their talented makers, Angeni, who shared:
"I hope the plushies are loved and taken care of. I pray for everyone’s good health and happiness.”
And here they are at LRH! Pictured is our wonderful Community Champion Janet, wheeling these soft bundles of happiness on a very important mission - to lift the spirits of patients in our care.
Thank you to Stitch In Hope Foundation and the amazing Angeni for this fabulous gift!

🎉🍾LRH pharmacist Yue Kee Wong has made her team proud by becoming the 500th participant to complete a prestigious training program.

Yue Kee was among the first cohort at LRH to completed the Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) Resident Training Program for early career hospital pharmacists.

Completing the program opens the door to faster career growth, eligibility for registrar-level training and rotation opportunities.

The program is delivered in partnership with and is one of the most influential early-career investments a hospital pharmacist can make in Australia.

“This has given me comprehensive training, exposure and mentorship to help me expand my skills,” Yue Kee said.

Yue Kee said her favourite aspect of the program was taking part in a six-month rotation which enabled her to gain exposure in different parts of the hospital.

Today in our Thomson Maternity Unit, we were deeply moved by an act of extraordinary compassion and courage.
Meagan Shaw, who experienced the heartbreaking loss of her baby boy Harry 12 months ago, chose to honour his first birthday in the most meaningful way. In Harry’s memory, Meagan and her family and friends lovingly created keepsake boxes for parents who also face the unimaginable grief of losing a baby.
Each box contains thoughtful items to help families capture and hold onto precious moments with their little one, including an ink pad for hand and footprints, seeds to plant in the garden and a copy of the book Meagan read to Harry. She also generously donated a camera for families who may wish to capture treasured photos, something that brought her comfort during her own journey through grief.
These beautiful gifts reflect not only Harry’s enduring impact, but also Meagan’s immense strength, understanding and love for others walking this difficult path.
Meagan (left) is pictured with Franca, our General Manager Women’s and Children’s, good friend Erin and Cathryn, the Nurse Unit Manager of Thomson.
It’s hoped this wonderful project will continue with your help. Reach out to us to find out how to get involved. Email engagement@lrh.com.au

💜💜💜Let's put our hands together for our much-loved Allied Health Assistants!

It's LRH Allied Health Assistants Week where we recognise the vital contribution they make to patient care every day.

Across LRH, our Allied Health Assistants work alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, dietitians and other clinicians to support patients on their recovery journey.

Whether helping with rehabilitation exercises, assisting with therapy programs or providing encouragement along the way, they play an essential role in helping people regain independence and improve their wellbeing.

Their dedication, teamwork and compassion make a real difference to patients and families in Gippsland.

There is nothing more frustrating when you can't get signal when out bush!

It's been a long standing issue for our East Gippsland mental health outreach clinicians who will spend days on the road without any phone or internet reception.

But now LRH has installed Starlink to two fleet cars based in Bairnsdale and Orbost, so our clinicians can be connected wherever they are.

It's thanks to a Victorian government Department of Health grant.

LRH mental health outreach clinician Jackie Taylor travels through isolated stretches to see her patients throughout East Gippsland.

“Quite a few of my psychiatrist appointments have been in the front seat of the car,” she said.

“I'll pick up the client and we'll go for a drive until I can get reception and then we'll sit in the car to have our psychiatrist review.”
