100% humidity
100% of anything is surely too much....the sticky icky of the intense humidity sends me indoors, somewhat disconnected from my natural source of inspiration. In term time that indoors can be the studio but in school holidays it’s the house. We turn to books, shows, board games……..and the kitchen.
Although my appetite and digestive fire would prefer I eat light (vata) food to counteract the heat (pitta) and moisture (kapha) excesses of the environment, it is hard to avoid the lure of sugar and processed food. These wolves in sheep’s clothing appear light and dry (vata like), but their impacts are actually aggravating to vata rather than pacifying.
On the mental plane, the mind wavers, doubt sets in and we slide back into well worn and possibly unhelpful patterns of thinking. This can be purely as a means of coordinating the movement and direction (vata qualities) of thought patterns, an attempt to bring them back into the familiar and known realm, where we feel we are in control.
So this morning I have fresh ginger in a rolling boil with a few cups of water. I’m going to leave it on simmer for 30 minutes and use this concentrate in my water through the day. A natural digestive fire stoker, it will help prepare the body for wholesome food later in the day.
What do you reach for when you’re stuck indoors that you wish you didn’t? Can you recognise which dosha you are trying to pacify?
