Goodmorning my SE Qld and Northern rivers peeps a few handy phone hints for the next couple of days:
1. When we lose power (and we will) the best way to make your phone last as long as possible is to turn off your wi fi and blue tooth. This drains your battery QUICKLY when they have nothing to connect to. ALSo: turn off non essential notifications eg games, health reports etc
2. Make sure your screen lighting is on low. On iPhones there is a power saving mode you can activate (ask Siri if you don’t know how).
3. When you know you won’t be using it make sure you put it on airplane mode rather than turning it off. Turning phones on and off takes lots of power.
4. If your battery is about to die CHANGE YOUR OUTGOING MESSAGE ON YOUR PHONE. Let folks know where you are, the day & time you left the message and how you’re doing - or if you need help. That way if folks ring they will get message bank and know you’re ok or not ok, even if the phone is dead. (Dont forget to change it again once your piwer is restored or you are safe) ‘hey it’s kym, it’s Fridayy 8am and my phone is dead, im at home and am ok for now, have plenty of food and water, thanks for checking in’. Or ‘hi it’s Friday 8pm. I live at (address) I am have contacted SES and am awaiting assistance as flood water is rising. If you get this message can you please contact emergency services on my behalf. I have no phone’.
5. Don’t forget that you can charge your phone by plugging it into your laptop or into your car (obvious I know but in times of crisis we forget).
6. **To keep up to date with what’s happening with friends news and updates on Facebook and keep your news feed up to date*** click your photo on the bottom right of your Facebook screen. It will bring a list of buttons, scroll to (you may have to press ‘see more’) until you get to FEEDS. If you press this it will give you the latest postings first. Then if you look to the top of the screen you will see the word ‘friends’. If you click this you will see your friends most up to date posts first (and ads).
Please stay safe. Please follow emergency services directions.
