Aboriginal health workers support our mob to access health services. Great work, Gloria!!

Gloria Torrens is our Aboriginal Liaison Officer at Casino & District Memorial Hospital.
As part of National Day of Recognition for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Practitioners, we want to shout out the wonderful work that Gloria and all our Aboriginal Health Workers do for the Aboriginal communities they serve.
“Providing the support and health care the mob needs encourages them to not only access the facility, but to also take that responsibility by looking after themselves to live a healthy and long life,” Gloria says.
“Working alongside a strong, respectful team at the Casino & District Memorial Hospital and having their support shows the Aboriginal communities that it’s safe, and they will be respected as a community person when presenting at the Emergency Department.”
“I welcome all the Aboriginal people, families, and friends to come to our hospital. I’m here for a yarn to make you feel comfortable if you’re attending surgery, presenting to ED or visiting. On arrival I encourage Aboriginal community members to ask for me when they arrive, as I will provide any support needed.”
