💜 ANZAC DAY 2024 💜

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Today, and everyday, we commemorate and honour the sacrifice made by the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) through wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. As the ANZAC spirit continues to unite Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia, let us remember those past and present, who have given their lives for their country, affording us the protection and safety we have today.

Lest we forget.

November 16th is ! It's about time we shine the purple light on pancreatic cancer, and how we need to do more to help those living with pancreatic cancer thrive. This is the day to turn our world purple!

Show support for those affected by pancreatic cancer by wearing purple today and this month too- any conversation around pancreatic cancer helps to shine a light on a cancer that currently has a very poor prognosis, yet still affects many of people in Aotearoa New Zealand (over 600 new diagnoses each year).

ASPERT is proud to be actively researching the use of pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) in pancreatic cancer, and how it can benefit both quality of life and survival. We are dedicated to working towards ensuring that all patients with pancreatic cancer have access to PERT and a dietician.

How can you get involved?
💜 Wear purple to show support for those affected by pancreatic cancer
💜 Look out for over 70 buildings across NZ being lit up purple this month
💜 The NZ Gut Cancer Foundation is hosting an auction with funds supporting Kiwis with pancreatic cancer through awareness and research- check it out at https://app.galabid.com/longlunch/items
💜 Educate and spread awareness about the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer- https://www.gutcancer.org.nz/pancreatic-cancer/

💜 Today is WORLD PANCREATIC CANCER DAY 💜

This is the day to turn our world purple! To wear something purple and share stories, awareness and knowledge about Pancreatic Cancer!

More than 600 people will be diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in New Zealand this year. The symptoms that people experience are often vague- to know of the symptoms and risk factors!

Today especially, let us support and remember those who are currently living with Pancreatic Cancer, those who survived it or lost the battle and the families and Whānau that are standing by their sides.

Spreading awareness, supporting and funding research and advocating for those living with Pancreatic Cancer will help improve the quality of life of those affected by it, as well as increasing outcomes overall.

The ASPERT Research Team are working on a number of projects to better understand how PERT is being prescribed in those with Pancreatic Cancer, which will inform what changes can be made to improve this access for all people with Pancreatic Cancer.

The New Zealand Gut Cancer Foundation are hosting an online Webinar next week (22/11/22) with Dietitian Helen Brown and Dr Amanda Landers (both from the ASPERT team). This is a great opportunity to explore what happens after a diagnosis or Pancreatic Cancer, how this affects diet and nutrition, the importance of PERT and the role of support in these domains!

Register here for the webinar (even if you can't make it on the day):

Pancreatic Cancer is a serious and most often life limiting disease, that affects a number of people throughout the world. It is becoming a more common cause of cancer death, with projections that it will be the 2nd or 3rd most common cause of death due to cancer in New Zealand.

we understand the seriousness of this disease and researching methods for early detection, treatment and symptom management that can help those living with pancreatic cancer.

The ASPERT Research Team is working on a number of projects to better understand how Pancreatic Cancer is treated, especially in regards to PERT (Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy).
