Strength to Progress.
After 2 years of talks and 6 months of planning, Cath and I presented our mini documentary yesterday .Something very vulnerable and surreal about sitting, observing people watching the fruits of our labour.
Can't tell you how much relief came when we heard people reacting to our film, laughs, gasps, sighs and even a few tears. ❤️❤️
Have to thank .midwifeclare who really encouraged me to do this.
And a HUGE thank you to our amazing women who were so generous with their time and stories.
Fabulous to catch up with so many friends, and make a few new ones.
BIG highlight for me was actually trying on the and seeing all the intricate work achieved.

This makes me so happy!!
We saw a massive shift towards homebirth during Covid, when the treatment of mums and babies were restrictive, cruel and traumatising.
I love that the trend of women feeling safer at home has resulted in these stats!

Did you have a home birth? How was your experience?

Home births have doubled in WA in the past five years, but stigma remains, and many women simply can't afford to have one.

One of the biggest misunderstandings midwives who offer home births say they encounter is that the births are unsafe.

"We're seeing research to show that not only is home birth safe … it's actually in some cases safer than hospital birth because there's less intervention," Dr Davison said.

I had the absolute honour of catching up with my Homebirth Midwife a couple of weeks ago.
It was wonderful, we shared stories, Birth, the sad, the maddening frustrations and the many, many wins.
I shared with her a core memory of the birth of my son - how as I was labouring in my pool, in my lounge, I could hear her pottering about in my kitchen making herself lunch and while my mum was irritated by the lack of attention (her first experience of Homebirth) I was unbelievably reassured and remember silently smiling at the absolute Normality of Homebirth.
My sons birth was so long, I was very blessed to have the nurturing care of a highly experienced midwife who knew how to "just be" (and where the biscuits were 😉 )

It's that time of year again!
My husband does the bookwork, accounts, tax - and I do all the fun things with pretty colours.
It's been a bumper year for us, so I'll take a moment to thank all of our customers, old and new.
Husband and I had our money on Qld taking the crown, but NSW shocked us with some crazy last minute purchases.
Thanks again for all your support.
This Home Business would not be approaching our 20th year in Business, if it wasn't for you

Sigh!
Another day, another email .....

We get offers like this all the time.
Cheaper pools. Bright colours. Easy to brand.
But we say no—every single time.
Why?
We won't touch pools that don't meet our standards.
We will only work with trusted suppliers who meet rigorous safety standards and put birthing women first.

A pretty pool isn’t always the best pool.

**At Simply Birth, we choose quality, safety and integrity—always.**

Have you ever wondered how many mothers have birthed, to lead you to this point today?
I have - usually when I was in labour, I used to imagine all the amazing women that birthed before me, my mum, her mum, her grandmother, her grandmothers mother and so on, for over thousands of births. The power of that thought gave me such confidence in my ability to birth, their DNA is amazing, every birth resulting in the birth of a female child, who was grown and fed well enough, to have her own baby, and so on and so on.
Incredible.

🌺 Mother’s Day Tribute 🌺

Today, I honour not just my mum,
but the thousands of mothers before her .
My Ancestors, who birthed through courage, wars, silence, hunger, storms, and strength. A different time for every generation.
I am here because they birthed.
Because they survived and lived in ways I’ll never fully understand.
Every successful birth before me,
is in my DNA and now that of my own daughters.

We are not just the daughter of one mother.
We are the descendants of thousands and I honour every single one of them.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Waterbirth!
I first heard of it in 1988, while studying Nursery Nursing in London, we watched a Documentary called "Water baby : experiences of Waterbirth". Ground breaking footage of women birthing in water, featuring the one and only Michel Odent.
I was in!
So when I got pregnant, back in the 90's Waterbirth was still nowhere near as mainstream as it is now. Getting information wasn't so easy.

The Waterbirth Handbook was literally my Bible, I still have it :)
