Examples of what listening to my body looked like this week:
> Taking my bra off because it was uncomfortable (after 15 minutes of putting up with it and listening to my thoughts. I listen to my body and took it off.
> Running in the rain. My brain has a belief that ‘I’m not a runner’, most people don’t run when it’s bucketing rain. My body woke up and wanted to frolic in the rain. So I did what it was telling me. Couldn’t wipe the smile off my face.
> Learning to play padel with fam on the weekend. Movement, sunshine, family? Rarely ever a no from my body.
> My brain telling me I need to ‘grow up’ and eat olives. My body saying I don’t like the taste. So I don’t eat them.
> My brain telling me to pull out the my laptop and finish off work, then telling me to read something, to scroll. Then my body told me to just sit and feel the bedsheets and listen to music.
> Wanting something filling, sweat, crunchy and nutrient dense. Everyone else saying this is a weird meal… my body saying ‘yum’.
Listening to your body doesn’t have to look like meditating for 2 hours a day, or setting aside 3 days for a retreat. They’re great and can be fun. You can also listen everyday in the little moments. From experience, these make the biggest long term impact.
Listen. Acknowledge with action. And watch your body and symptoms start to change…
