Master Ji Shou Xiang, from Suzhou, China, is spending time in Melbourne to help the Taiji Push Hands community further their development. It was an incredible privilege to have him work with us and reinforce that without a solid theoretical base; a clear understanding of the principles; containing our movements and our minds within the Yin Yang framework; then we are not adhering to what it is to truly be a Taiji Push Hands practitioner.
Master Ji will be providing private training and practice sessions until he returns to China in mid-September. For information and bookings contact Peter Phung – peterpung25@gmail.com
For those of you who want to practice your Taiji Push Hands, Studio 14 in St Kilda has free sessions on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.

Last Saturday, Studio 14’s Chinese vintage reception area was bathed in golden red light as the JinLi crowd slipped back in time to 1920’s Shanghai for our dazzling Winter Soiree. Jazz tunes floated through the air, canapes were served by the very best of people, champagne bubbled over, and laughter danced from room to room as over 50 guests swayed and mingled through to the early hours of Sunday morning.
It was an evening of elegance, connection, and joy. So here’s to us doing it all again next year.

Yet another amazing workshop with Sifu James Gao. Every time he comes to work with us we learn more and more. In between times, we're getting together to compare notes and reading, work on form and use all of that to improve our Push Hands.
The best thing is that our group is growing, with wonderful new people coming to share the richness of Sifu Gao's teachings. If you want to learn or practice please feel free to join us on the 3rd Sunday of every month at Studio 14 in St Kilda.

Taijiquan (Tai Chi) is a martial art transcending physical movement. It is a holistic practice that weaves together the internal and external aspects of the human experience to cultivate balance, harmony, and inner strength. Central to this practice are the internal and external harmonies, which guide practitioners in aligning their mind, energy, and body. Read on for an introduction to the Six Harmonies in Taijiquan - https://www.jinli.com.au/blog/an-introduction-to-the-six-harmonies-in-taijiquan

From theory, to form, to push hands… our wonderful journey into developing internal skills with Sifu James Gao continued with another big training session last Sunday. It feels like we are a regular Tai Chi family now, as we study, watch and push together every time Sifu Gao is in Melbourne. Our group comes from all over Victoria and interstate to benefit from his remarkable knowledge and skills, but we always have some new people to welcome into our ever-growing network of passionate practitioners. It’s so special to be able to share in and enjoy the teachings of someone with such a remarkable lineage and expertise, who is so humble yet internationally acclaimed. Sifu Gao is the true embodiment of a Taijiquan great and we are so honoured to learn from him.
Here's to our next session! Please feel free to come and join us.

Happy Lunar New Year... The Year of the Snake!!
This year has many meanings for those of you who practice Tai Chi and Qigong. You can think of it being a Wood Year, which is associated with growth, resilience, and inclusiveness. You can think of it as having the attributes of the snake with its wisdom and transformation. You can think of it as a time to focus on the way you move like a snake in your Tai Chi or develop internal strength in your Qigong. But no matter how you think of it, let’s embrace the wisdom, resilience, and vitality that the Year of the Wood Snake brings, honoring its rich symbolism and cultural significance in our arts.

There is an oft-used expression in the media “Rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd” and such was the start of JinLi’s combined Gregorian/Lunar New Year Celebrations last Sunday at Ming Dining in Melbourne’s CBD. Just before festivities were due to kick off, a deluge hit the city, obliterating footpaths and gutters, sending flood waters racing through the city. Clearly, JinLiers were not to be put off, as one by one, people arrived, drenched from head to toe. Waiters rushed around with teatowels, hand dryers raced, and sodden shoes were removed. A mere 10 minutes after our planned start time, over 50 people were seated, enjoying great food and even better company. 4 hours later, the last of the crowd departed, drier, fuller and happier than when they arrived.
A special thank you to Tony and his team for making us forget our wet feet.
Here's hoping we get to repeat it all again next year minus the floods.
