Lady Davidson Private Hospital is the largest private teaching rehabilitation facility in Australia, with 115 patient beds dedicated to both veterans and private patients.

We have four specialised rehabilitation units under the care of experienced Rehabilitation Physicians, offering programs in Orthopaedic, Neurology, Spinal, and Cancer rehabilitation. Carved by Private William Thomas Shirley nearly a century ago while he was a inpatient at Lady Davidson Private Hospital, the Sphinx Memorial stands as a powerful symbol of dedication and resilience — a tribute to his fallen comrades of the Australian Imperial Force. which continues to be admired by visitors and bushwalkers in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

Native Wildlife Around Lady Davidson Hospital

We’re lucky to be surrounded by some of the most beautiful bushland in Sydney — and we often have a few friendly animals drop by to remind us just how special our environment is.

From kookaburras, cockatoos, galahs, rainbow lorikeets, bush turkeys, Australian king parrots, plovers, and possums, the grounds around Lady Davidson Private Hospital are full of life.

These native animals are a wonderful part of our peaceful setting and remind us every day of the calm, healing environment our patients enjoy.

Who Was Lady Davidson?

Lady Margaret Agnes Davidson — wife of Sir Walter Edward Davidson, Governor of NSW (1918–1924) — was a remarkable woman devoted to helping others.

She was awarded the title Dame Commander of the British Empire for her work with the Red Cross and the Scouting and Girl Guides in NSW.

In 1920, she officially opened the Turramurra Consumptives’ Home, caring for returned servicemen with tuberculosis after World War I. The hospital was later renamed in her honour — Lady Davidson Hospital — as a lasting tribute to her compassion and service.

Today, more than 100 years later, Lady Davidson Private Hospital continues her legacy of care, rehabilitation, and community spirit.

Today at Lady Davidson Private Hospital we had an ANZAC day service for our Patients, Visitors and staff who are unable to attend services tomorrow.

Lady Davidson Hospital was one of the major repatriation hospitals attending to the needs of returned members of Australia's armed services.

The history of the Lady Davidson Hospital spans some 100 years from its humble beginnings as a Red Cross convalescent home for First World War veterans suffering pulmonary tuberculosis and its subsequent transfer to the Repatriation Commission in 1923.

Today we had Sydney Roy Taylor who is 102 years old, he serviced has country in World War 2 he laid the wreath with help from Jane Thornley the Director of Nursing.

The Easter Bunny visited Lady Davidson Private Hospital, On Thursday Morning to help hand out Easter Egg Baskets and Hot Cross Buns, With Liz Masters the General Manager and Jane Thornley the Director of Nursing to all of the wonderful staff working over the Easter weekend.

While the Easter Bunny was here, we also put him to work answering phone calls and helping out the admin team on the computers
