Starting from April 1st, 2019, a new system for categorising hospital products will be introduced. Some of the big changes that are coming include:

➕ Gynaecological services as well as ovarian and breast cancer treatment under Silver and Bronze packages to modernise the difference between coverage for men and women.
➕ Patients with limited mental health treatment will be able to upgrade their services without serving a waiting period.
➕ 16 natural therapies and alternative therapies will no longer be covered by any fund’s extras cover.
➕ Private Health Insurers can provide travel and accommodation benefits for people in rural areas, needed to travel long distances to receive medical treatment.

Do you understand the new system for categorising health insurance?

Starting from April 1st, 2019, private health insurers are required to introduce a 4-tiered system that includes Gold, Silver, Bronze and Basic packages. This will help simplify the comparison process when looking at different health funds and comparing the cover you receive.

Health funds will also be able to provide Basic Plus, B***e Plus and Silver Plus packages that will allow you to cover minor upgrades to policies that include restrictions and/or exclusions that are suited to your needs.
