I had the pleasure of attending a very informative (and jam packed!) event on fertility preservation hosted by the lovely . Egg freezing is an incredible option for young women who, for whatever reason, may potentially delay having children, until a time in their life which is suitable.
offers this option locally with Dr Maxwell and her great team. So, if you are interested, reach out to them for more information. For example, if you qualify for Medicare rebates, the timeline of the procedure, using a sperm.donor, etc.,
And of course, I am here if you need any naturopathic support if you decide that fertility preservation is something you would like to pursue.

Women with ADHD are often misdiagnosed and/or misunderstood. This is due in part to most research surrounding ADHD having been conducted on males AND the current DSM-5 criteria not always classifying women as well as men (due to masking, internalised symptoms, gender biases and social stereotypes).
There are many oestrogen and progesterone receptors in the brain, and female hormones are closely involved with neurotransmitter pathways (in particular, the dopaminergic pathways, which is our 'reward response').
It has become evident that oestrogen withdrawal negatively impacts dopamine. From this pattern, we can see how a lifespan approach to ADHD in women is required.
In adolescence, the vrain may be more sensitive to hormones, there is a highly activated limbic system, brain development (particularly the frontal lobe) may delayed in those with ADHD, and the impacts on psychosocial development need to also be considered.
In our reproductive years, an increase in ADHD symptoms are more likely to occur in the luteal phase due to increased progesterone and a reduction in oestrogen.
Dur8ng perimenopause and menopause, a decline in oestrogen and progesterone may lead to a worsening of symptoms. The changes in the brain that impact dopamine and serotonin can lead to altered concentration and focus; reward pathways, depressed mood, etc.
There are amazing herbs/nutrients that can assist women of all ages with ADHD. Please come to see me. Yours in good health and happiness, Nx

As women, we tend to put EVERYONE else before ourselves... partners, parents, children, pets, friends....literally everyone! However, it is fundamentally important that we need to prioritise self care. Just like on an aeroplane, where they instruct you that if required, put your own oxygen mask on first before assisting others.
Self-care is not selfish. Instead, it is an essential practice to maintain your overall well-being. Neglecting self-care can lead to burnout and affect your mental health.
It does not have to be complicated and require lots of activities. It is about the quality of the activities rather than the quantity. Having a big list of all the self care activities can in itself make you feel terrible if you do not complete the list.
When you figure out the activities that work best for you, you tend to create a routine that ensures you have self-care time.
Self-care is not only about your physical health. It can also be mental/emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social, vocational, and financial.
And talking about financial aspects of self-care, it has often been glamorised as luxurious spa days, retail therapy, etc. But, self-care is not a luxury. It's a fundamental necessity for everyone regardless of what's in your bank account. There are so many self-care activities where you do not have to spend a cent!
The first step to self-care is to start. Full stop.
You can make a list with five of your favourite self-care activities; list one or two areas of your life that you could focus more on; create a list of self-care activities you would like to try, and to schedule self-care time in your calendar now.
Ultimately, self-care expands beyond immediate feel-good activities but also includes various areas of your life and can include habits and routines that aren't always the easiest.
If you would like support and/or assistance in regards to caring for yourself in a holistic approach, please come to see me. You are worth it, and you deserve to feel happy, energised, and healthy.

The theme for the 2024 World Breastfeeding Week is to ensure that everyone has access to breastfeeding support and opportunities. It is essential that no one is left behind, especially vulnerable mothers who may need additional support to reduce breastfeeding inequalities.
There are beautiful herbs that are called galactagogues that work by gently increasing the level of prolactin in the body. In addition, the herbs can assist in reducing your baby's colic or upset tummy. Nature is truly magical!
If you need breastfeeding support, please come to see me. Apart from herbs, we can discuss nutritional and lifestyle changes that can support.

PERIMENOPAUSE:
Have you noticed that your periods have become more unpredictable and heavier? Are your premenstrual symptoms (PMS) more intense? Do you have PMS symptoms even though your period is not due? Are you on an emotional roller coaster with your fluctuating moods? Are you having bigger reactions to what should be small conflicts? Have you gained weight without having changed nothing in your diet or exercise routine? Do you experience annoying brain fog that affects your ability to concentrate? Do you feel exhausted and ‘flat’ most of the time? Has your libido disappeared? Do you suddenly have joint aches and pains? Are you urinating more frequently? Are you waking multiple times during the night? Or now have issues falling asleep? Or perhaps you feel like you’ve suddenly stepped into the least-relaxing sauna ever (hello, hot flushes!)?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions, and you are anywhere from your mid 30’s onwards, then you could be in that stage of your reproductive life called Perimenopause (which means “around menopause”). It is the natural transition to menopause which can last, on average, two to ten years, and even though perimenopause may be inescapable, that doesn’t mean you need to struggle with this natural process and its symptoms silently.

What can you expect from this workshop?

Understanding the changes and learning how to support your body and soul at this important change can assist the perimenopause transition one that is positive and empowering, rather than challenging, frustrating, or depressing.
A breakdown of the hormonal fluctuations of perimenopause (for example, the wild cycles of high and low oestrogen during perimenopause, combined with progesterone quietly declining) for you to be able to understand what is happening to your body, nervous system and what are the driving factors as to why you feel like you do.
Practical approaches to increase your metabolism and muscle mass and to reduce body fat.
Macronutrient suggestions for eating and exercise- realistic and holistic nutritional tips to fuel your body.
Support to enhance energy production and to improve sleep quality.
Nervous system support to improve your stress response, reduce feelings of rage, anxiety, irritability, and low mood.
Natural approaches through herbal medicine to assist with hormonal balance, increase your energy and vitality, and reduce the symptoms of perimenopause.

Adenomyosis occurs when the endometrial tissue that normally lines the uterus develops into the uterine muscle wall. Throughout each menstrual cycle, the misplaced tissue continues to grow, degrade and bleed regularly. Consequences are an elarged 'bulky' uterus and unpleasant heavy and/or prolonged menstruation.
Pain can manifest as sharp or knifelike pelvic pain during menstruation or chronic pelvic pain. Women often experience dyspareunia (painful sexual in*******se).
The underlying cause of adenomyosis are 'unknown' but there are hypotheses that could involve invasive tissue expansion, from developmental origins and potentially from stem cell beginnings.
Regardless of how adenomyosis began, just like endometriosis, it is driven by oestrogen levels. There are surgical approaches to the management of adenomyosis, the OCP or the mirena.
Some patients are looking for a complimentary or natural medical approach to adenomyosis and that is where naturopaths can assist. From herbal medicine, nutritional medicines and addressing lifestyle/diet, I have had many patients reduce their presenting complaints caused by adenomyosis.
Please come to see me for any hormonal related issues.

Let's celebrate the incredible women in our lives and the sacrifices they have made, and continue to make to challenge injustice and protest gender inequality.
This years theme is . And why does International Wonen's Day still matter? because we are not there yet- we are still protesting for equal pay, access to healthcare, an end to violence against women and an end to discrimination. Plus, as has been demonstrated in the USA, our reproductive rights are not secure.
We are stronger than they think.

Finally! The ABC news reported today that the introduction of the green whistle comes after Hack reported on women's reactions to painful IUD procedures. Hundreds of listeners reached out with their experiences, with some describing it as "the worst pain they've ever experienced" and feeling like "having a hot poker stabbing my uterine flesh." One of the biggest complaints was that doctors hadn't adequately warned them about the pain, instead saying the procedure could cause "discomfort." They recommended over the counter pain relief, which for most just does not touch the sides.
Finally, experts are noting that medical bias against women's pain relief is improving. GP Dr Nicole Higgins said two-thirds of GP trainees are now women, leading to meaningful change in the system. BRAVO! Now, this pain relief just needs to be available in all hospitals, GP clinics, and sexual health clinics for women experiencing any procedure that causes pain.

A paper was recently presented at the Fertility Society of Australia & NZ (FSANZ) Annual Meeting detailing Australia's first uterine transplant at RPA. The complex and difficult surgery procedure on both the donor (a 47 year old woman) and the recipient (a 25 year-old woman who was born without a uterus) was successful with no intra or post-operative complications. So far, no embryo transfers have been performed.
It was a huge operation for both women.
I just had an overwhelming desire to share this. What an amazing gift the donor has given to that young woman.
