UoN Hall of Fame πŸ₯°

This week we were recognised at the University of Newcastle Employability Awards for our contribution to student learning and graduate pathways πŸŽ“

We’ve had the privilege of welcoming dozens and dozens of UON students into placement and permanent roles over the years ✨

A big thank you to the University for the recognition, and to our People & Culture and Clinical teams for the work they put into supporting students each year πŸŽ‰

We are passionate about students having access to community aged care and disability placements

We are also passionate about building "work-ready" skills

This means strengthening feedback and communication skills throughout their placements too πŸ₯°

Is equipment still funded under the Support at Home program? πŸ€”
..Yes! But it is referred to as "Assistive Technology" or simply "AT"

Under the Support at Home program...
..there is a separate budget for AT

And it can be defined as low, medium or high cost

And there are rules regarding:
➑️ what types of AT can be funded
➑️ what types of AT need an allied health assessment

If you have any questions about AT, reach out to us at CT πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘‹

...are home modifications covered under the Support at Home program?

Yes!

However, there are new rules to know πŸ‘€

1. Life-time cap of $15,000
➑️ At present there is a life-time cap of $15,000 for the home modifications budget

We believe this is too low at Community Therapy and should be subject to the same rules that Assistive Technology are...which is applications for > $15,000 expenditure can be made with evidence

2. Participant contributions
➑️ Home modifications fall under the independence category
➑️ 5% contribution for full pension
➑️ 5-50% contribution for part pension
➑️ 50% contribution for self funded retiree

We believe the impact of these contributions need to be closely monitored as participants and advocacy bodies are already reporting that they are impacting participants ability afford home modifications or forcing them to choose between services.

If you have any questions about home modifications, reach out to us at CT 😊

...so what contributions apply to allied health services under Support at Home? πŸ€”

Well, most allied health services fall under the "clinical" category...
..and therefore have no participant contributions

So that means the following of our services have no contributions:
- Allied Health Assistant
- Dietetics
- Exercise Physiology
- Occupational Therapy
- Physiotherapy
- Speech Pathology

Massage Therapy however falls under the "independence" category...
..and therefore does have participant contributions

If you have contribution questions, ask your registered provider!

If you have any allied health questions though - ask us! 😊

...so what is the Support at Home program πŸ€”

It is the new community aged care program...
..that has merged the Home Care Package and Short Term Restorative Care Programmes πŸ‘€

It is a big change

Participants and families have a lot to learn...
..as do registered providers
..and associated providers

If you have any Support at Home questions, feel free to ask or jump on our website to learn more!

..and she loves collaborating with the CT multidisciplinary team to get the best outcome for clients

When she’s out on the road between visits...
..you’ll find her listening to a pop-country playlist...
..or an audiobook thriller πŸ‘»

Our waitlist and allocation system started...
..as a sticky note process 🀭

Back in 2017, the community allied health software market was still emerging

Most software was focused on bricks and mortor clinics
..but we had complex waitlist management, allocation and continuity of support workflows to solve
..so
..we started with sticky notes

And over time this transitioned to a custom workflow in a secure project management system

It now has automation helping support us triage across up to 700 referrals a month at times πŸ‘€

Often when designing workflows, businesses complicate the solution

Find a way to do things simply and then choose or design software solutions around that

The best system, is a simple system
