Adam recently achieved beyond his original ultimate goal for weightloss and is now enjoying moving through the 3 levels of maintenance.
Here is a summary of his weightloss journey in his words......
"What I have enjoyed about this program is how you see the weightloss in real time. The fact the weight was coming off relatively easily (and daily), made it easy to stick to the process. When you see continued results, every day, off the back of relatively mild exercise, combined with your regular daily work movements being a part of that exercise and also the eating of proper food, you feel confident in the process and are keen to keep going.
The NSV's include:
Making a morning walk a part of my routine EVERY day for over 5 months (so far) and actually enjoying that walk. In the past, a walking regime for me, would last a few weeks at best. Also, from when I started the pace of my walk has increased dramatically (I've cut my average time to walk a kilometer by over a minute) and my legs feel stronger for it.
Elevated energy levels.
My blood pressure is back to normal and I am now off my medication, providing my blood pressure stays that way for 6 months....... So far so good...... and my cholesterol has returned to a number below the recommended healthy score. Both these things (and the major weightloss) have my doctor very impressed with my work.
The reductions in my body measurements and metabolic age.
And my hips have loved the weight of 22kgs being lifted off them. While the arthritis isn't going away, I very rarely feel the soreness in them that I used to, just from doing a full day on my feet.
Moving into maintenance has (so far) been an easier transition than I thought it would be. I was concerned that the extra food was going to just add the weight back on, but my metabolism is now "off the charts" and I am having to add even more food than I thought I would, to stop from losing weight. Even to the point of not having to do protein only days every Monday. Now that is just a tool that I will use only when required.
As for the support from you guys, it's really been the little things that I have appreciated. The reassurance (especially at the beginning) that everything was tracking well and that I was doing the right thing, even when the scales may have told a different story. Also the advice on small tweaks and adjustments in what items of food I was eating and when have helped a lot. I feel I understand a lot more about what certain foods do to my body, but more importantly, I know that if I have a gain on the scales that I can turn that around pretty quickly. This has definitely helped me get through times like Christmas, or functions, where I had indulged a little, because I knew it was a one off and that I actually could enjoy a treat at these times, without thinking I had undone all my good work. I think that knowing this going forward, is what (in my mind) makes sticking to this way of life so much more sustainable. I don't have to never eat certain foods ever again. Because when I decide that I do want to enjoy that piece of cake on a special occassion, I know that I now have the tools and the mindset to balance that out with regular healthy choices the rest of the time."
