Cold. Uncomfortable. Completely worth it 🧊❄️

Our team took on the ice bath challenge this week — and while there were definitely some shocked faces and nervous laughs, the benefits make it worthwhile.

Ice baths can help:
• Reduce muscle soreness and inflammation
• Speed up recovery after training
• Improve circulation
• Build mental resilience and stress tolerance
• Boost mood and energy through endorphin release

We believe in practising what we preach — doing hard things, supporting each other, and growing together.

Safe to say… this crew showed up. Who’s trying it next? 👀

Passing the test doesn’t mean you’re ready to play.

Return-to-sport testing is often treated like a finish line: pass the tests, get cleared, return to competition.

But re-injury rates after ACL rehab remain high, which tells us something important:

Testing alone doesn’t prevent injuries.

In this episode of the RX Physiotherapy Podcast, we break down:

✔ Why quadriceps strength is one of the biggest predictors of re-injury
✔ Why hop tests can be misleading
✔ How athletes can unknowingly compensate during testing
✔ The role of fear and psychological readiness
✔ Why gradual exposure to training matters more than a single test

Return-to-sport testing shouldn’t be about clearing athletes.

It should be about preparing them for the demands of sport.

Free Physiotherapy-Led Strength & Mobility Classes – March

Most people wait until pain becomes severe before they start fixing the problem. Tight hips, stiff backs, weak glutes, poor posture and recurring injuries usually build quietly over time. Strength and mobility training is one of the most effective ways to prevent this.

Throughout March we are running free physiotherapy-led Strength and Mobility classes at Hustle Hut Health and RX Physio as a gift to our community.

These sessions are designed to help you move better, build strength safely, and improve mobility under the guidance of a physiotherapist. Every exercise can be modified, so beginners and experienced gym-goers are both welcome.

Classes run:
Tuesday – 6:00pm
Thursday – 6:00pm

All levels welcome.

If you have been dealing with stiffness, recurring injuries, or simply want to move and train better, this is an opportunity to experience physiotherapy-guided training in a supportive environment.

Book your spot:

With hypermobility, one of the biggest misconceptions is that the solution is more stretching.

In reality, hypermobile bodies usually don’t lack flexibility — they lack control, stability, and load tolerance.

When joints move beyond their ideal range, the nervous system often struggles to feel safe.
To protect you, it can increase muscle tension, pain, or fatigue.

This is why people with hypermobility often feel tight, sore, or unstable — even though they’re very flexible.

Building strength is important, but how you load the body matters.

We often start with isometric exercises — where the muscle works without joint movement — because they create stability, improve control, and send a strong safety signal to the nervous system.

From there, we gradually build controlled movement and strength through range, so the body learns that it can tolerate load safely.

Hypermobility isn’t about limiting movement.
It’s about teaching the body how to feel supported and confident within it

The tear usually isn’t the fire…
it’s the smoke alarm.

Think of your shoulder like a crane lifting a box.
The rotator cuff (including supraspinatus) are the small guide ropes.
They don’t lift the weight — they keep the arm centred while the big muscles move it.

After an injury or pain, your brain stops trusting the shoulder.
So the big muscles pull harder and faster to protect you.

Now the guide rope has to steer a swinging crane by itself.
It doesn’t break because it’s weak — it gets sore because it’s doing a job meant for a team.

That’s why:
• rest helps a bit
• injections calm it down
• but reaching overhead or sleeping on it still hurts

Because nothing taught the team to work together again.
Physio isn’t about “fixing the tear”.
It’s about teaching the shoulder how to share the work.

We:
- calm the angry tissues so the alarm turns down
- retrain control so the ball stays centred
- build strength so the big muscles carry the load again

When the shoulder trusts the system… the pain settles — even if the tear is still there.

If your shoulder keeps hurting but the scans haven’t changed, it’s probably not broken — it’s uncoordinated.

Book with one of our physios and we’ll rebuild how your shoulder works.

This is Mignon 💛

For a long time, exercise didn’t feel empowering for her — it felt exhausting.

After living with chronic fatigue, the usual fitness advice of “just push harder” wasn’t just unhelpful… it was harmful.
So we changed the approach.

At Hustle Hut, our strength-focused classes are built differently:
• Rest is part of the program — not a weakness
• More is not better — better is better
• The goal isn’t punishment — it’s adaptation
• We build muscle to change body composition and protect long-term health

Now Mignon trains multiple times each week.
Not burnt out.
Not flared up.
Stronger.

But the part we care about most?
She told us she feels safe, strong, and part of something here.

That’s the real outcome.
Not just fitness — confidence.
Not just sessions — consistency.
Not just a gym — belonging.

Mignon — you are exactly why Hustle Hut exists.

Think every ACL injury needs surgery? Think again!

In this episode of RX Physiotherapy Podcast, Trent Cooksley breaks down non-surgical ACL rehab — how targeted exercises, strength, and neuromuscular training can restore knee stability and function.

Most people hurt their back doing something ridiculously normal… putting on socks, picking up washing, leaning over the sink — and they say, “I didn’t even lift anything heavy, my back just went.”

Exactly.
Because your back wasn’t lifting something heavy — it was lifting everything.

Imagine four kids carrying a couch.
Your hips are supposed to be the big strong kid, your core helps steer, your legs help drive.

But after an injury, everyone quietly drops their corner… and one poor kid — your L4/5 — keeps holding the whole couch.

It manages for a while.
Then one day… socks are the final straw.

That’s why rest, stretching and massages help temporarily — they calm the sore kid down.
But they never make the others pick the couch back up.

Real rehab isn’t about making your back stronger.
It’s teaching the rest of your body to help again.

Most recurring back pain isn’t damage returning — it’s teamwork that never came back.

If your back keeps “randomly” going, it’s time to fix the cause — not just calm it down. Book in with our physio team through the link in the bio.

Colby originally injured his meniscus.
But the pain didn’t stay in his knee — it moved up to his hip.

Why?
Because the body always finds a way to cope.

When a joint doesn’t feel stable, your brain borrows movement from somewhere else.

In Colby’s case, his hip became the shock absorber for a knee that didn’t feel safe.
When we tested him, his single-leg balance drifted sideways toward the injured leg.
His glutes weren’t giving him a stable base — so his body leaned to create one.

Not weakness.
Not damage.
A stability strategy.

In hypermobile bodies, this happens a lot:
The joint moves easily → the brain doesn’t trust it → muscles grip or shift → pain appears somewhere else.

So people stretch the hip.
Release the hip.
Roll the hip.

But the hip isn’t the problem.
It’s the place doing extra work.

This is why rehab has to be specific — control first, then strength.

If you’ve had pain move from one area to another, or keep coming back even when scans are clear… your body might be stabilising, not failing.

This week we attended The Physiotherapy Symposium.

The conversation in our profession is shifting. Away from quick fixes and passive treatment. Toward long-term strength, measurable outcomes, integrated care models and businesses structured to support deeper clinical work.

Better systems support clearer plans.
Stronger leadership supports consistent care.
Sustainable business models allow time and attention to focus on diagnosis, progression and long-term outcomes.

This is bigger than one clinic. It is about raising the standard of physiotherapy so our country moves better, ages stronger and depends less on reactive healthcare.

We care about care that lasts.
We care about building capacity, not just easing symptoms.
We care about a future where physiotherapy plays a central role in long-term health.

That is the direction we are committed to.
