INDICATIONS FOR ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION FOR AN BREAST ULTRASOUND

1. For the evaluation and characterisation of a clinical abnormality.

2. For the evaluation and characterisation of an abnormality demonstrated on other imaging e.g., mammography, MRI or CT.
3. For guidance of interventional procedures (for example, biopsy, clip placement, hook wire insertion, drainage of abscess and etc).
4. For treatment planning and the evaluation of impact of the therapy (tumour size reduction, no change, increased size or no response to therapy).
5. For post-operative assessment.
6. For the assessment of implants, in particular extracapsular rupture, peri-prosthetic fluid collections. Ultrasound is not recommended for assessment of intra-capsular rupture, where MRI is the gold standard.
7. For the initial evaluation of palpable masses in the young (

PELVIC ULTRASOUND

1. Evaluation of the menstrual cycle (endometrial thickness, follicular development)
2. Monitoring natural or stimulated follicular development during infertility therapy
3. Localisation of an intrauterine device
4. Evaluation of abnormal bleeding (premenopausal, perimenopausal and postmenopausal)
5. Assessment of a pelvic mass (e.g., adenomyosis, fibroid, cancer, cysts)

6. Evaluation for sequelae for pelvic infection (e.g., abscess, hydrosalpinx)
7. Evaluation of conge***al uterine anomalies)
8. Screening for malignancy
9. Pelvic or abdominal pain
10. Pain during urination
11. Pain during s*x
12. Difficulty getting pregnant
13. Swelling in the abdomen

INDICATIONS FOR ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION FOR AN

MUSCULOSKELETAL ULTRASOUND
1. Suspected tendon tears or tendinitis of the rotator cuff in the shoulder, Achilles tendon in the ankle and many other tendons throughout the body.
2. Suspected muscle tears, masses or fluid collections.
3. Suspected ligament sprains or tears.
4. Suspected inflammation or fluid (effusions) within the bursae and joints.
5. Suspected early changes of rheumatoid arthritis.

6. Suspected nerve entrapments such as carpal tunnel syndrome and tarsal tunnel syndrome.
7. Suspected benign and malignant soft tissue tumours.
8. Suspected ganglion cysts.
9. Suspected hernias.
10. Suspected foreign bodies in the soft tissues (such as splinters or glass).
11. Suspected dislocations and dysplasia of the hip in infants.
12. Suspected fluid in a painful hip joint in children and adults.
13. Suspected neck muscle abnormalities in infants with torticollis (neck twisting).
14. Suspected soft tissue masses (lumps/bumps) in children and adults.

1. Unilateral flank pain, low back pain, lower abdominal pain, or groin pain

ABDOMINAL AORTA ULTRASOUND
1. Throbbing pain in the head
2. Presence of arterial hypertension in the patient
3. Severe left sided abdominal pain radiating to the lower back.
4. Causeless nausea and repeated vomiting
5. Changing shape of the abdomen
6. Presence of memory problems in the patient
7. Presence of blood secretions in faeces
8. Presence of pulsation in the middle part of the abdomen
9. Patients who have previously suffered a heart attack or stroke.
10. Suspected aneurysm in a smoking patient
11. Follow-up on aneurysm and post-EVAR
