Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month 🤍🕊️🪽
Remembrance day: October 15th
Trigger warning: pregnancy loss, stillbirth, infant loss
October marks Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, this month and today, October 15th we pause to honour, remember, and raise awareness for the little lives that left too soon, and hold space for the families navigating loss.
Each year, approximately 110,000-150,000 Australian women experience early pregnancy loss or miscarriage. This is approximately 285-410 miscarriages each day. For every 137 women who reach 20 weeks of pregnancy, one baby will be stillborn, and around 738 infants pass away each year in Australia.
By continuing these conversations, we can help to create safe spaces for families to share their stories — to release the guilt, the stigma, and the silence that so often surrounds pregnancy and infant loss.
Awareness helps to honour the babies who are missed every day, and to support the parents and families navigating unimaginable grief.
I have personally experienced the loss of three beautiful babies — a heartbreak that words can never truly express. I share this to remember them, honour them, and to help break the silence surrounding miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss.
This grief is far more common than it is spoken about, and that none of us should have to carry it in silence.
If you or someone you know needs support, these beautiful organisations offer guidance, community, and care:
