Successful Irish designed Activity Program for Alzheimer's and Dementia gets major boost in the UK
Training2Care (UK) Ltd have signed an agreement with Irish Company ImaginationGYM to distribute their activity training programme for Alzheimer's and Dementia. Training2Care are one of the largest training companies in the elder care sector in the UK. They deliver over 200 different types of courses per annum to such customers as the NHS, Local Councils, BUPA and 50,000+ care home and centres registered by the Quality Care Commission. This is Ireland's equivalent of HIQA.
Their flag ship product, along side which ImaginationGYM will feature, is the Virtual Dementia Tour Bus. This extremely popular workshop allows participants to experience what it is like to have dementia so that they can better understand the condition. It has visited these shores, most recently to St James Hospital in Dublin. The UK company has several of these buses on the road at all times, such is the demand.
Commenting on the ImaginationGYM program, Glenn Knight, MD Training2Care said "We are very excited and committed to the ImaginationGYM programme. It has been very successful in Ireland with nearly half the Nursing Homes there using it and growing monthly. We have visited some of these and have been exceptionally impressed with how dementia clients respond to the ImaginationGYM workshops being run by the Irish nursing home staff. We want to replicate that success in the UK similar to what we have achieved with the Virtual Dementia Tour".
The main features of the ImaginationGYM method is that it creates a regular space in which Alzheimer's and Dementia clients can relax and have peace of mind. The workshop stimulates all the senses and can help with sleeping problems, stress, anxiety and may increase communication and socialisation. There are currently 55,000 people in Ireland with Dementia and 850,000 in the UK according to the Alzheimer societies in both countries
