If you have been struggling with challenging life situations, not knowing what to do, you have tried everything and you are still struggling, we can assist with a different approach to therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Our organisation is one of the first to introduce ACT to Australia. Mary Sawyer is a leader in in providing therapy with ACT as an intervention. Mary also facilitates quality professional development for Mental Health Practitioners. MEET THE TEAM:

Mary Sawyer is a psychologist with wide experience as an ACT therapist. Mary is one of the most experienced and foremost ACT therapists in Australia. She has trained with leading ACT researchers and clinicians in Australia, Britain, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Italy and USA. Before setting up private practice, Mary lectured nurses in psychology and psychosocial care at Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Australia and Hong Kong. Mary is a peer reviewed ACT Trainer and former board member of the Association of Behavioural Science (ACBS). She regularly presents at ANZ ACBS conferences in Australia and New Zealand and at ACBS World Conferences internationally. She applies ACT working with a variety of psychological problems such as; depression and anxiety, grief and loss, post traumatic stress disorder, addictions, adult survivors of sexual abuse and relationship issues. Mary is committed to enhancing ACT clinical skills for all mental health practitioners by facilitating workshops in Australia and by providing clinical supervision. She is the convener of a monthly ACT discussion group in Sydney that provides ACT therapists mentoring and assistance in developing case conceptualization. This group first convened in 2004 and has been growing in strength ever since.

Lynsey is a Clinical Psychologist registered with AHPRA and Medicare Australia. She holds memberships with the Australian Psychological Society, the Australian Clinical Psychology Association and the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science. Lynsey graduated with a Doctor of Clinical Psychology from the University of Auckland in New Zealand was awarded The University of Auckland and The Federation of Graduate Women Scholarships. Lynsey has experience utilising several evidence-based approaches to assist her clients in achieving their therapy goals, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She has worked in hospital, correctional, research, community and private mental health settings, including The New Zealand Department of Corrections, headspace and The University of Sydney. Lynsey enjoys working collaboratively with clients, and has experience in both individual and group therapy settings. Lynsey’s particular areas of interest and experience are stress and time management, assertiveness training, confidence and social skills training, goal setting, mindfulness techniques, grief and loss, and addressing disorders of sleep, mood (e.g., depression), and anxiety/phobias.
