TENS MACHINE AVAILABLE FOR HIRE!

🪷How does a tens machine work in labour?

TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) machine is a wonderful non pharmacological pain relief and tool for labour and birth recommended by midwives and mums globally.

The machine has 4 electrode patches that stick to your lower back while in labour. The device is held by the mother or is on a lanyard around her neck. Then the mild electrical current is produced by the machine, which is usually felt as a tingling sensation on the skin on the back.

The electrical impulses then help prevent pain signals from reaching the brain by interrupting pathways. The electrical pulses also stimulate your own body to release its natural feel good endorphins which are essential to work with other labour horses and help release oxytocin and natural pain killers. Studies have also shown with the release of oxytocin the active labour phase time is also reduced!
