Just a few photos from when we visited Grenfell a few weeks ago to go to the Grenfell Light up the Night and then stayed the night at our new ActiveMate STA (Respite Centre). The iconic Jacaranda House. We also did cooking lessons and spent some time at the pool.
Was an awesome day with this great bunch we went with!

Hi Young and Community surrounds! This May, Active Mate Support Services are glad to announce that we are taking part in the R U OK? Fundraising challenge at our local Anytime fitness gym. As most of us are aware, mental health issues are becoming increasingly common within our society, and people living with a disability are even more likely to suffer from poor mental health. For example:
-10% of men with a disability have experienced suicidal thoughts-compared to 4% of men without a disability; and
-Adults with a disability are almost 5 times more likely to experience frequent mental distress
It is important to note that people with an intellectual disability also experience different barriers to accessing mental health services; and although it is well established that people with an intellectual disability have high rates of mental health problems, it has been reported that rates of uptake of services do not match need.
Research shows that enjoyable interactions with one’s social environment has positive effects on both mental health and wellbeing. Adults with physical disabilities may have fewer opportunities of favourable exchange, and therefore the effects on mental health and wellbeing may be less advantageous. Active Mate support services believes in being active within our community, both socially and physically. We enjoy helping our clients engage with, and build relationships within the community. It is for these reasons that our staff and our clients are so excited to be a part of the ‘R U OK?’ challenge.

Every year over 65,000 Australians attempt to take their lives – that gives me 65,000 reasons to Tread As One. I’d really appreciate your support – every donation helps.

So, last Thursday Steve and I decided to hit the road and head out to Koorawatha falls. The waterfalls were stunning and we had an absolute blast! It's always good to get out and about, and good old mother nature didn't disappoint.
