GenePath proudly celebrates a milestone achievement by its founder, Dr. Mustak Ibn Ayub.

Dr. Ayub recently completed the prestigious Certificate Course on Translational Medicine offered by the Eureka Institute for Translational Medicine, held in the historic city of Syracuse, Sicily, Italy. The course brought together 30 esteemed scientists from leading universities and institutions across the UK, USA, Netherlands, Singapore, China, and Italy.

Dr. Ayub was granted special access to the program through a fully funded scholarship, awarded in recognition of his initiatives and efforts in the field of translational medicine in Bangladesh.

Building on this experience, Dr. Ayub will soon launch a Translational Medicine module in collaboration with LifeCourse, aiming to foster innovation and bridge research with clinical impact.

GenePath Founder Dr. Mustak Ibn Ayub delivered a highly appreciated invited talk titled "Precision Medicine in Bangladesh: Closer and More Achievable Than We Think" at the University of Dhaka on 18 September 2025. He was invited to speak at the special Symposium on "Strengthening Industry-Academia Partnership in Healthcare and Material Sciences", jointly organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

In his talk, Dr. Ayub emphasized how domestically available facilities can be effectively utilized to make precision testing more affordable and accessible in Bangladesh.

Day 1: Introduction to Molecular Oncology and Cancer Genetics
Session 1 (1 hour): Introduction to cancer genetics and genomics
- Overview of cancer types and their genetic basis
- Introduction to oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, and DNA repair genes
Session 2 (1 hour): Techniques in Molecular oncology research
- DNA sequencing technologies: Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing (NGS)
- Gene expression analysis: microarrays, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq)
Session 3 (1 hour): Molecular pathology and molecular diagnostics
- Biomarkers and their role in cancer diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment
- Liquid biopsies and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis
Day 2: Molecular Basis of Cancer Development and Progression
Session 1 (1 hour): Oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes: Mechanism and Regulation
- Major oncogenes and their role in cell growth regulation
- Tumor suppressor genes and their involvement in cancer development
Session 2 (1 hour): Signaling pathways in cancer
- Overview of major signaling pathways implicated in cancer
- Introduction to targeted therapies based on signaling pathway inhibitors
Session 3 (1 hour): Epigenetics and cancer
- Epigenetic alterations in cancer and their impact on gene expression
- Epigenetic therapies and their potential in cancer treatment
Day 3: Molecular Diagnostics and Precision Medicine
Session 1 (1 hour): Molecular profiling of tumors
- Molecular tests for cancer subtyping and classification
- Analysis of genetic alterations, including mutations and copy number variations
Session 2 (1 hour): Liquid biopsies and minimal residual disease (MRD) detection
- Utility of liquid biopsies in cancer monitoring and treatment response assessment
- Detection of minimal residual disease (MRD) using molecular techniques
Session 3 (1 hour): Learning from Case studies in molecular oncology
- Real-life examples of molecular profiling and targeted therapy selection
- Discussion of clinical decision-making based on molecular diagnostic results
