Importance of life style change for healthy life:
Health is wealth and the root of all happinesses. This is known to everyone. Health is physical, mental and social wellbeing, not mere absence of disease or infirmity. This can’t be achieved automatically and for this, healthy life style needs to be practiced routinely instead of traditional one as early as possible.
Healthy life style: It means adoption of such a life style by which we can achieve physical, mental and social wellbeing in true sense. It includes intake of balanced and healthy diet as per age and profession that is easily digestible and could provide required energy; avoidance of to***co and other addictive substances; regular physical labor or exercise instead of idle life and anxiety free life as far as possible.
Healthy Diet: It comprises of low amount of rice/bread/potato (one fourth of a standard plate of about 9 inches diameter); plenty of green and leafy vegetables (half of mentioned size plate); protein-(daily demand of an adult is 100gm) from pulses, fish preferably small and sea fish, chicken (one fourth of the plate); low salt (As per WHO supported STEPS Survey,2018, daily salt consumption of an adult Bangladeshi is 9 gm but actual need is only 5gm/one tea spoon full); low sugar, daily need of an adult is 12 teaspoon full but the final target is 6 tea spoonful); daily intake of fruits particularly seasonal fruits. Avoidance of red meat (beef, mutton, lamb, buffalo, pork) or how far possible to be minimized and any processed food, tasty and unhygienic street foods that contain a lot of harmful fat (trans fat) to be avoided or minimized as far possible.
Habit: In-any form of to***co (with smoke-Bidi, Cigarette, E-cigarette, Chilim/Hukka and smokeless- Jorda, Dried to***co leaf, Gul, processed betel-nut & to***co (Pan-masala), khoini etc.) to be avoided totally.
*It is to be noted that those who are non-smokers, indirectly smoking if someone smokes by your side either in the transport or park or any other place, fumes are coming and you are inhaling smokes as second-hand smokers. Children are mostly affected by their fathers, any other family members if they smoke. The non-smokers are smoking as third-hand smokers too. If somebody smokes in the room sitting on the sofa or in the car and after his departure the fumes and chemicals of to***co exist on the sofa or car for at least 4-6 hours. If someone enters the room or car and sits, she/he would inhale these chemicals as third-hand smoker. So, every body needs to be cautious though smoking in any public place is a punishable offence.
Substance abuse: Any addictive substance (Alcohol, G***a, Ma*****na, Yoba, He**in, Phensedyl, Ice, drugs etc.to be avoided totally. It needs to be mentioned that it is not only in urban areas, it has also been extended to the rural areas. Many of the youths of both urban and rural areas are being addicted by these addictive substances. This needs to be taken care of seriously by the parents, social elites, religious leaders, teachers and law enforcing agencies as these youths would be our future strengths to move the country ahead in all aspects.
Physical exercise: Laziness and watching TV for a long time or any sort of idleness (sedentary life) to is to be avoided completely. Routinely physical labor or exercise is to be done, daily at least for 30 minutes, 150 minutes per week, having an interval of 2 days but not for 2 consecutive days. If could be done for 7 days per week, that is more beneficial. The physical labor/exercise preferably needs to be done in open space- in the play ground or on road with minimum traffic or in the park. Besides these, we could increase physical labor in many ways- by walking to the market in two ways, at least when to go to the market; by doing household chores; washing clothes, playing with children, by walking in the house premises, swimming (if facility is available); cycling, avoid lift how far possible, at least during getting down etc. Physical labor or exercise is applicable for everybody irrespective of age and s*x. It helps in having sound sleep that keeps our mind fresh and in the next day we would get more energy and our mood would be breezy.
So, through practicing healthy life style we could achieve healthy life, which is desirable.
