Continuous rains have flooded croplands in northern districts, putting Aman paddy, potatoes, green chillies, maize, and winter vegetables at risk.

Influenced by Cyclone M***a over the Bay of Bengal, light to heavy rainfall swept across parts of Bangladesh from Thursday to Sunday, affecting fields currently growing Aman paddy, potatoes, onions, green chillies, maize, mustard, winter vegetables, and pulses.

জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন প্রতিহতের নামে বিশ্বজুড়ে এক ধরনের অনৈতিক ও বলপ্রয়োগের সংস্কৃতি গড়ে উঠেছে। এর শিকার হচ্ছে দক্ষিণ গোলার্ধের দরিদ্র ও উন্নয়নশীল দেশগুলো। বিশ্বব্যাংকের মতো শক্তিশালী প্রতিষ্ঠান যখন খোলামেলাভাবে ধনী রাষ্ট্রগুলোর এজেন্ডা বাস্তবায়নের জন্য নীতি ও কার্যক্রম প্রবর্তনের উদ্যোগ নেয়, তখন মানবতা লজ্জিত হয়। উদাহরণ হিসেবে বলা যায়, আফ্রিকায় এলপিজি গ্যাস ব্যবহার বন্ধে বলপ্রয়োগ করা হচ্ছে, অথচ শুধুমাত্র রান্নার ধোঁয়ার কারণে প্রতি বছর লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষ নানা শারীরিক সমস্যায় ভোগে। এই চিত্র কেবল আফ্রিকার নয়—বাংলাদেশেও বায়ু দূষণের ফলে অর্থনৈতিক ও স্বাস্থ্যগত ক্ষতি হচ্ছে। আমরা এর সমাধান চাই। এলপিজি গ্যাস প্রতিহত করার পরিবর্তে এর প্রযুক্তিগত উন্নয়ন, আধুনিকায়ন ও সহজলভ্যতা নিশ্চিত করা দরকার—এবং অবশ্যই তা পরিবেশবান্ধব হতে হবে।

Farming Future Bangladesh

Farming Future Bangladesh (FFB) is a comprehensive communications and community engagement organization to help improve awareness about modern agricultural innovations, including crop biotechnology, in Bangladesh. Based in Dhaka, it operates under the auspices of the Cornell Alliance for Science, of Cornell University, USA with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. FFB aims to share evidence-based information about the social, economic and environmental benefits of modern agricultural innovations. FFB is effectively engaging key stakeholders and a community of advocates who are working in a coordinated way to promote access to scientific innovation as a means of enhancing food security, improving environmental sustainability and raising the quality of life.

ফার্মিং ফিউচার বাংলাদেশ (এফএফবি) বিজ্ঞান ও কৃষি প্রযুক্তি বিষয়ে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির উদ্দেশ্যে গঠিত একটি সমন্বিত উদ্যোগ। এটিবাংলাদেশের কৃষিতে নতুন প্রযুক্তির ব্যবহার, বিশেষ করে বায়োটেকনোলজি ব্যবহার করে উদ্ভাবিত আধুনিক কৃষি প্রযুক্তি সম্পর্কে সচেতনতাবৃদ্ধির লক্ষ্যে কাজ করছে। বিল অ্যান্ড মেলিন্ডা গেটস ফাউন্ডেশনের অর্থায়নে পরিচালিত ঢাকা ভিত্তিক এই প্রতিষ্ঠান যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের কর্নেলবিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের কর্নেল অ্যালায়েন্স ফর সায়েন্সের সহযোগিতায় ও তত্ত্বাবধায়নে পরিচালিত হচ্ছে ।

এফএফবি, কৃষিতে যথাযথ ও সহজলভ্য প্রযুক্তি ব্যবহারের মাধ্যমে দেশের আর্থ-সামাজিক ও পরিবেশগত অবস্থার উন্নয়নে তথ্য-ভিত্তিক প্রমাণউপস্থাপনের মাধ্যমে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির লক্ষ্যে কাজ করছে। যেমন বায়োটেকনোলজি ব্যবহার করে উদ্ভাবিত বিশেষ গুণাবলী সম্বলিত ভিটামিন ওখনিজ উপাদান সমৃদ্ধ পুষ্টিকর ও নিরাপদ খাদ্য আর্থ-সামাজিক ও পরিবেশগত উন্নয়নে ফলপ্রসূ ভূমিকা রাখছে। ফার্মিং ফিউচার বাংলাদেশবিশ্বাস করে এই ধরনের অত্যাধুনিক কৃষি-প্রযুক্তি বাংলাদেশের মানুষ তথা ভোক্তাদের জন্য নিরাপদ, স্বাস্থ্যকর এবং পুষ্টিকর খাদ্যসরবারহ নিশ্চিত করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করবে।
