Homeopathy plays a major role in treating chronic diseases and is now being used as alternative medicine by doctors, said KGMU VC Lt Gen (Retd) Prof Bipin Puri.

Addressing the two-day National Homeopathic Conference at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Centre on Saturday, the VC urged doctors to conduct evidence-based research by keeping a proper record of drugs being tested on the patient.

“This will give the best outcome and experience to practitioners,” he said.

The conference started with remembering Dr CFS Hahnemann, the father of homeopathy, on his death anniversary.

Prof Lubna Kamal, a faculty member at Homeopathy Medical College, Kanpur, cited her study of 551 chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients with creatinine levels greater than 1.5 and blood urea more than 40. She said though 250 patients didn’t come for regular treatment, among the remaining 301 patients, 57% showed improvement, 24% remained on previous level while 19% didn’t show any benefit from homeopathy.

“In our study, we found that dialysis frequency in many cases went down, while in some it even stopped,” said Prof Kamal.

Chairman of National Homeopathy Fraternity Dr Anand Chaturvedi, who organised the conference, said: “Homeopathy plays a vital role in CKD, cancer and allergy.”

Meanwhile, Dr BD Patel from Bengaluru said homeopathy drugs could quickly cure acne.

“It is a myth that homeopathy acts slowly. We are getting quick and permanent results,” he said.

Oncologists Dr Saurabh Mishra and Dr Rajat Chattopadhyay from Kolkata presented papers on ‘principles of oncology’ and ‘concept of integrated medicine in the changing context’, respectively.

Students of BHMS and MBBS presented cultural programmes.
