Description

Composition:

Each 1 ml vial contains Triamcinolone Acetonide BP 40 mg sterile IM/IA injectable suspension.

Pharmacology:

Triamcinolone Acetonide is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroids with marked anti-inflammatory actions which also have salt retaining properties, which are used as replacement therapy in adrenocortical deficiency states. So it is primarily used for their potent anti-inflammatory effects in disorder of many organ systems.

Indications:

Intra-muscular (IM)- The IM administration of Triamcinolone Acetonide (Sterile Triamcinolone Acetonide Suspension BP) is indicated for systemic corticosteroid therapy in such conditions as allergic diseases, dermatosis, generalized rheumatoid arthritis, neurological disorder, nervous system and hematologic disorder. Intramuscular administration is particularly valuable when oral corticosteroid therapy is not feasible.

Intra-Articular (IA)- The Intra-articular administration of Triamcinolone Acetonide injection is indicated for adjunctive therapy for short-term administration (to tide the patient over an acute episode or exacerbation) in synovitis of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, acute and sub acute bursitis, acute gouty arthritis, epicondylitis, acute nonspecific tenosynovitis and post-traumatic osteoarthritis.

Dosage & Administration:

The dose of Triamcinolone Acetonide is dependent on the size of the joint to be treated and on the severity of the condition. Doses of 2.5-5 mg (0.0625-0.1250 ml) for smaller joint and 5-15 mg (0.125-0.375 ml) for larger joints usually alleviate the symptoms. Triamcinolone Acetonide 40 mg/ml is available to facilitate administration of larger doses or, as directed by the registered physician.

Contraindications:

This is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the formulation. Moreover, this is also contraindicated in systemic infections unless specific anti-infective therapy is employed. Besides this, administration by intravenous or intrathecal injection.

Warning & Precautions:

Particular care is required when considering use of systemic corticosteroids in patients with the following conditions and frequent patient monitoring is necessary. Diverticulitis, thrombophlebitis, existing or previous history of severe affective disorders (especially previous steroid psychosis), exanthematous diseases, chronic nephritis, or renal insufficiency, metastatic carcinoma, osteoporosis (post-menopausal females are particularly at risk); in patients with an active peptic ulcer (or a history of peptic ulcer).

Side effects:

Muscle weakness, fatigue, steroid myopathy, loss of muscle mass, osteoporosis, dyspepsia, pancreatitis, impaired wound healing etc.

Use in pregnancy & lactation:

Triamcinolone Acetonide is a pregnancy category ‘C’ drug. As with all drugs, Triamcinolone should only be prescribed when the benefits to the mother and child outweigh the risks. Corticosteroids may pass into breast milk; although, no data are available for Triamcinolone.

Drug interactions:

Barbiturates, phenytoin, rifampicin, rifabutin, carbamazepine, primidone and aminoglutethimide may enhance the metabolic clearance of corticosteroids, resulting in decreased therapeutic effects.

Storage:

Store in a cool (below 25° C) & dry place and protect from light.

Description

Composition:

Each ml contains Crotamiton BP 100 mg and Permethrin BP 50 mg

Indications:

Crotam Plus plus is indicated for the treatment of scabies and Pruritus

Dosage & Administration:

Adults: Apply once. If necessary, a second application may be given not less than 7 days after the initial application. Other members of the family should use this lotion as preventive in the same way due to its highly contagious effects.

Children aged 2 months to 2 years: Apply over whole body under doctor supervision.

HOW TO USE:
Lotion should be applied to clean, dry skin. If the body is hot due to warm bath or any other reason, skin should be allowed to cool. It should be applied to the whole body excluding head. The whole body should be washed thoroughly 8-12 hours after treatment. On the next day cloths and bed sheets should be cleaned with warm water. The lotion should be applied if lotion is washed out by water. Other members of the family should use this lotion as preventive in the same way due to its highly contagious effects. The lotion should not be applied to the vicinity of mouth and areas close to eyes.

Contraindication:

Permethrin is contraindicated in subjects with known hypersensitivity to the Product.

Side Effects:

Generally mild and transient burning and stinging are followed by application of lotion. Other temporary symptoms of irritation including pruritus, erythema, numbness, eczema and rash may occur. In patients itching may persist for up to 4 weeks Post-treatment. This is generally regarded as due to an allergic reaction to the dead mites under the skin and is not necessarily indicative of a treatment failure.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

Pregnancy: There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, this drug should be used in pregnancy only if clearly needed.

Lactation: It is not known whether the lotion is excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, consideration should be given to discontinuing nursing temporarily or withholding the drug while the mother is nursing.

Drug interaction:

There are no known drug interactions with the lotion.
