World Breathing Day 🌬️

Breath is life.

In yoga, it is called prana — the vital life force that flows through us, sustaining every cell, every moment. And yet, in the busyness of life, we forget something so simple and so powerful.
We forget to embrace the breath.

This week, as I facilitate a spring soul detox and reflect on the element of air, I am reminded — our breath is not just a biological function, it is a bridge.
A bridge between body and mind.
Between stress and calm.
Between survival and healing.

Ancient yogic wisdom has always known this.
And today, science confirms it: Slow, conscious breathing helps regulate the nervous system, activates the parasympathetic (rest-and-heal) response, reduces stress hormones, and supports emotional and physical healing.
Every inhale nourishes.
Every exhale releases.

You don’t always need to do more.
Sometimes, you just need to breathe… consciously.

Today, take a moment.
Pause.
Inhale deeply.
Exhale slowly.

Come back to yourself.

World Health Day 💚

Health is not just the absence of disease — and even the World Health Organization defines it as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.

And yet, much of our system focuses primarily on symptoms and physical cure. Research clearly indicates now that :

- The nervous system plays a central role in healing.
- Chronic stress impacts immunity, inflammation, and recovery.
- Emotional and psychological health directly influences treatment outcomes and quality of life.

Across psycho-oncology, integrative medicine, and mind–body science, evidence continues to show that healing is not just biological — it is systemic.

And this applies to all illnesses, not just cancer.

We cannot separate the body from the mind.
Or the mind from lived experience.
Or health from the environment and support systems around us.

My wish is simple:

That we begin to truly see the human being as a whole.
That care moves beyond protocols to people.
That treatment includes not just medicine — but an integrative approach alongside it including nutrition, mental and emotional support, nervous system regulation, and connection, lifestyle changes etc.

Because there is a difference between curing a disease…and supporting a human being in healing.

Today, on World Health Day,
let’s move from fragmented care to whole-person health. 💚

I know how overwhelming it can feel.

So many options. So much information.

And somewhere in between… the constant question:
“Am I doing enough?”

I’ve lived this closely—through my brother’s journey, when we searched everywhere after medicine had no more answers… because just waiting and watching was never an option.

And I’ve felt it in my own journey too—
What else can I do? Where can I do more?

But here’s what I’ve come to realise…
Every individual is unique and every healing journey is deeply personal

Just because something worked for someone else… doesn’t mean it’s right for you.

So how do you decide?
You turn inward.

Because your body carries wisdom.
Your soul already knows.
Trust that inner guidance.

As we celebrate our wedding anniversary in my ancestral village, seeking the blessings of our deities and ancestors, I find myself reflecting on the journey that brought us here.

Our relationship has seen many seasons in a very short time. Sam first moved to India, and later I moved to Belgium with dreams of building a big family and professional life together. Life, however, had other plans.
We went through the heartbreak of losing our first baby, followed by my cancer diagnosis. It was not easy. Life kept throwing challenges at us at every stage.

To be honest, our relationship went through its own tests. And perhaps that is only natural when life brings so much uncertainty and pain, and each of us is trying to process it in our own way.

The truth is that the people closest to us are often the ones most affected by what we go through. They also bear the brunt of our anger, frustration, fear, and grief that arise from these situations.

For a long time, I expected too much out of everything including relationships, but today I make peace with the fact that this expectation was unrealistic. When life brings grief, fear, and uncertainty, emotions show up in many ways — and that is simply human. Relationships go through their own tests, but at the core of it all, we still genuinely love and deeply care for each other, always wanting the other’s wellbeing.

What matters most is that we navigated it all together.
And in doing so, our bond has only grown stronger.
When I look back, the good memories far outweigh the difficult ones. Those are the moments we choose to hold onto as we step into today feeling loved, blessed, and deeply grateful.

In so many conversations lately, I’ve noticed how cancer can become all-consuming.
It becomes the only thought. The only focus. The only narrative running in the mind.
I can understand, a diagnosis disrupts everything.
But what if we gently interrupted that chain of thought?

Not by denying reality.
Not by pretending it isn’t hard.
But by creating space.

Space between the diagnosis and your identity.
Space between fear and the next breath.
Space between “What if this goes wrong?” and “What if healing is unfolding?”

Because science shows us something important:
Chronic stress keeps the body in a prolonged fight-or-flight state — elevating cortisol, increasing inflammation, and disrupting sleep, digestion, and immune balance.

Healing — whether during treatment or recovery — requires regulation.
A body that feels safer functions better. So what can we do in between?

• Regulate the breath — slow, deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system.
• Spend time in nature — even brief exposure lowers stress markers and supports immune balance.
• Practice meditation or mindful awareness — shown to reduce anxiety and inflammatory signaling.
• Move gently — walking, stretching, yoga support circulation and nervous system regulation.
• Cultivate gratitude — associated with improved psychological resilience and well-being.
• Stay connected — strong social support is linked to better coping and health outcomes.

These are some of the ways of supporting the internal environment in which healing unfolds.

It’s about shifting from the constant mental fight and begin trusting as if healing is already unfolding.
