Rose Petal Honey 🌹🍯 by Sarah McCartney for ROSEOVERDOSE

When I think about the perfumers who’ve joined me for the Rose Retreat throughout the years, Sarah McCartney from 4160Tuesdays stands out. Not only because of her incredible talent and adventurous persona, but because of how she honored Bulgaria before she even arrived.

For Rose Retreat 2023, Sarah created multiple perfume formulas in advance, each one exploring and celebrating locally produced perfume materials. She was the only perfumer to approach the experience this way, and it showed her deep respect for our culture and craft.

Rose Petal Honey is the beautiful outcome of that first encounter. It weaves together the richness of Bulgarian honey with the delicate, complex character of our roses. Deliciously floral, this fragrance is more than a perfume. It’s a tribute to Bulgaria, to our collaboration, and to Sarah’s artistry.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, I’m reminded that this fragrance was born out of curiosity, mutual respect, and a shared love for exceptional perfume materials.

Sunny Beach was officially established in 1958 as a seaside getaway for Bulgarian families. On June 1, 1959, the resort’s first restaurant, Neptune, opened its doors to welcome the very first visitors. The rest, as they say, is history.

Every petal a dream, every thorn a reality.

Hello, I’m Silvia! Once upon a time I fell in love with a rose garden and ever since, I am naturally high. I got an overdose of rose and I simply can’t get enough.

My relationship with Roses is a complex one - I feel them, I pursue them, I abandon them but I always come back to them. It’s like a dreamy color-coded love affair.

I think the oil-giving rose - Rosa x Damascena is the one to blame for my endless curiosity and evolving interest in natural aromatics. With time, I developed huge respect for this oil-giving flower. The Rose is beautiful to look at, but it also has been put to practical use almost as much as it has been idealized and associated with sensual pleasure.

The Queen of all flowers has always been as full of mystique and meaning as it is of thorns. The Rose has been a star-scent in perfume history, an astringent and soothing agent in cosmetic formulae, a regenerative ingredient in aromatherapy, a flavoring agent in gastronomy, and a symbol of beauty and love beyond all means. The ultimate flower with power!
