Meet Matthew!
Matthew has recently joined Dignity House as an intern while pursuing his undergraduate degree in Psychology at Suffolk University, where he is expected to graduate in May 2026.
Over the next one to two years, his goals include completing his psychology studies with a focus on interpersonal, counseling, and applied mental health coursework, gaining practical experience in community or youth counseling settings, and beginning his Master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of San Diego in Fall 2026.
During this time, he aims to develop foundational therapy skills through practicum and supervised clinical work, shaping his therapeutic identity around supporting men’s and athletes’ mental health.
Looking three to six years ahead, Mathew plans to complete the supervised clinical hours required for licensure, while forming a dual specialization in men’s mental health and sports/performance counseling. He hopes to serve men dealing with identity, emotional expression, stress, trauma, and societal pressures, as well as athletes navigating challenges such as confidence, injury, motivation, and performance-based self-worth, all within clinical settings that use evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, and person-centered therapy. In the long term, within seven to fifteen years, Mathew aspires to become a licensed therapist or clinical psychologist, develop a specialized practice centered on men’s mental health, athlete wellbeing, and performance psychology, and potentially open his own practice or join a multidisciplinary team serving men, teens, and athletes.
He also envisions creating programs and workshops that help reduce stigma around therapy, emotional vulnerability, and self-care, while advocating for healthier models of masculinity and improved mental-health support systems within sports and the broader community.
Welcome to the Dignity House Family!
