Here are some ways to prevent diarrhea in children:
■ Wash hands: Wash hands with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer when there's no water, after using the bathroom, changing a diaper, or touching dirty surfaces. You should also wash your hands before preparing or eating food, and after handling raw meat, animals, or animal waste.
■ Drink safe water: Make sure your child has access to safe drinking water and avoid tap water, ice made from tap water, and untreated water when traveling.
■ Eat safely: Avoid raw or undercooked meat or fish, raw fruits and vegetables unless you wash and peel them, and food from street vendors. Store food properly at the right temperatures, and cook all foods to the recommended temperature. Throw out leftovers after 3–4 days, and reheat leftovers to 165° F (73.8°C) to kill bacteria.
■ Get vaccinated: Get your child vaccinated against rotavirus, which is a common cause of cause of diarrhea in children.
■ Practice good hygiene: Keep the bathroom clean and wash soiled surfaces.
■ Breastfeed: Breastfeeding for the first six months of life can help protect your baby from infections and diseases.
■ Limit drinks: Limit the amount of juice and sweetened drinks your child has.
"Remember: diarreas in children are very dangerous, it might dehydrate them, being a life threatening for them ".
