Guest: Dr. Phinius

TOPIC: Viral Coinfections: Implications for HIV and Hepatitis Co-infected Populations

Bonolo Phinius is a Research Fellow at Botswana Harvard Health Partnership. She holds a PhD in Medical Sciences form the University of Botswana through which she studied the prevalence and diversity of HBV in people living with HIV residing in thirty rural and peri-urban communities in Botswana. Her interest is infectious disease research and she has worked more specifically on viral hepatitis since 2016.
Phinius has co-authored over twenty publications on hepatitis B, C and D viruses in Botswana, reflecting a commitment to advancing scientific understanding in Botswana and the region. Phinius serves as a Secretary in a non-profit organization called Sisters Advocating for Women in STEM (SAWSTEM) that aims to spark an interest in STEM fields in our community from as early as with primary school.

Awards: Young Female Scientist Program in Japan (2024), L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science Award (2023), Charles Boucher Award for Excellence in Science (2022), Best Emerging Scientist in Botswana (2022).
