MAHALAPYE DISTRICT HOSPITAL RECEIVES ESSENTIAL MEDICATION FROM CENTRAL MEDICAL STORES

Mahalapye District Hospital has received a consignment of essential medications from Central Medical Stores (CMS). The delivery includes a range of critical drugs and consumables used in the management of chronic conditions, mental health, infections, emergency care, and general inpatient services. Among the medications received are Sitagliptin, Aripiprazole, Meropenem, oral corn tablets, Rifampicin 75 mg, Sodium Bicarbonate 8.5%, Dextrose, Gentamicin injection 80 mg, Dopamine injection 200 mg, Water for Injection 10 ml, Bupivacaine in dextrose injection, Normal Saline, Glucose 5% (500 ml), and Ceftriaxone 250 mg injection.
This delivery is expected to improve service provision and continuity of care for patients at the facility.

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY STAFF LECTURE

This morning, the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Department enlightened staff on key health and safety issues in the workplace. The Occupational Health Nurse, Mr. Walter Tebagano, delivered a lecture on the subject.

Occupational Health and Safety is very important to every worker as it ensures the safety and welfare of staff. It helps prevent accidents and injuries by ensuring that incidents and near misses are reported and addressed promptly before they escalate into crises. In addition, OHS plays a vital role in supporting workers’ mental health by promoting a healthy work environment, identifying work-related stress factors, and providing guidance, referrals, and early interventions for employees experiencing mental health challenges. This support helps improve overall well-being, productivity, and job satisfaction.

MEET AND GREET SESSION BY BOTSWANA RAILWAYS MANAGEMENT AT MAHALAPYE DISTRICT HOSPITAL

A meet-and-greet session was held between Botswana Railways and the hospital management to formally introduce the newly appointed Caretaker General Manager, Mr Okitanye Gaogane. The Caretaker-General Manager was accompanied by Director Business Development, Mr Semabale Tladi and Corporate Communication Officers. Hospital Superintendent, Dr Kagiso Tshegetsang applauded and appreciated the strong working relationship that has existed since the COVID-19 era, highlighting Botswana Railways’ valuable support to the health sector, including the provision of a vehicle that was used for contact tracing.

In his remarks, Mr Gaogane emphasized his intention to strengthen collaboration by engaging directly with hospital management, noting that the meeting would help both parties know where to seek assistance whenever the need arises.

LITTLE MR AFRICA BOTSWANA DONATE TO MAHALAPYE DISTRICT HOSPITAL

Today, Martin Kemo Magola, Little Mr Africa Botswana—who recently represented the country in India and was crowned Outstanding Pageant Personality and Grand Fashion Icon—made a heartfelt donation at Mahalapye District Hospital. The initiative was driven by his desire to give back to the community, particularly to children admitted to the hospital, by showing love, care, and affection, uplifting their spirits, and igniting hope and strength throughout their healing journey.

During the visit, he also delivered an encouraging message to the hospital staff, urging them to continue working hard and emphasizing the importance of changing and improving how things have been done to achieve better outcomes. He applauded and commended the staff for their dedication and commitment to ensuring quality service delivery at all times.

MAHALAPYE DISTRICT HOSPITAL ANSWERED TO THE CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGN ACTIVATION CALL

This morning, Mahalapye District Hospital joined other government departments in a clean-up activation exercise ahead of the main national clean-up campaign scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 13th December 2025. The initiative, championed by the President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, aims to promote cleaner and healthier communities.

Mahalapye District Hospital was partnered with its neighbours, the Botswana Police in Parwe, to clean the surroundings from the A1 Road through the hospital premises up to the Shoshong Circle. The activity demonstrated strong community collaboration and commitment to maintaining a clean environment.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS DAY- PINK FRIDAY

This morning, staff and patients at Mahalapye District Hospital gathered to commemorate those affected by breast cancer, marking the end of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event was held under the theme “Every story is unique, every journey matters.”

During the event, Dr. Phetogo, the Senior Medical Officer from the surgical team, emphasized the importance of regular breast cancer screening, noting that self-examination can be done at home, with further assessment available at the hospital. The Orthotist, Mr Dumisani Nunu said the hospital offers artificial breast fitting; adding that after one had undergone the surgery, it is crucial to retain their confidence by giving the artificial breasts. The day was filled with unity and hope, as both men and women donned pink outfits to show their support and solidarity in the fight against breast cancer
