LONG STAY IN TOILET RISKY-UROLOGIST
A lot of people, these days spend a considerable amount of time sitting in the toilet, not because of constipation, but because they are busy surfing the internet on their phones, playing games or reading.
A urologist at Bokamoso Private Hospital, Dr Daou Gdeh observed in an interview that toilets had become one of the places where one got a break from the commotion of life and do whatever they felt like without any interruption.
Dr Gdeh warned that spending too long in the toilet made one 18 times more susceptible to germs.
He stated that recent research had revealed that one in six phones had traces of f***l matter on their surfaces, unbeknown to the owner.
He said apart from contracting germs, spending too much time on the toilet caused pressure on the re**um and a**s, stating that because the seat is cut out, the re**um is lower than the rest of the backside and gravity takes over hence blood starts to pool and clot in the veins.
“Hemorrhoids, or piles, are essentially varicose veins in your re**um or a**s, they form because of excess pressure on the veins and as a result, the veins could bulge and fill with blood clots and this could lead to pain, itching and other unpleasant effects,” he said.
He said the other reason why one should limit the time they spent in the toilet was that sitting too long, could in addition to resulting in development of hemorrhoids, lead to protruding blood vessels around the a**s, which would result in a very uncomfortable experience.
Dr Gdeh said the problem that one might get as a result of a long a stay in the toilet was the E coli bacteria infection, which was mainly from the stool and by contaminating one’s hands.
He said the bacteria could predispose one to a number of infections mainly diarrhea and urinary tract infection. CONT…
