Embodied Wisdom Counselling and Somatics I’m Stephanie, a Registered Social Worker and founder of Embodied Wisdom. We work in a collaborative way to allow integration to unfold.

I provide somatic, experiential trauma therapy for adults feeling stuck in anxiety, depression, or unresolved trauma. ​I am a Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant™ and Registered Social Worker. I believe that food an emotions are deeply entwined, and when we get right down to looking at the roots of issues, understanding our nutrition and imbalances are pivotal to creating a healthy sustainable lifestyle. We can't make good choices if we don't knowhow, or if we believe we can't. I work with people to help develop an understanding of their beliefs around food and finding a way to move toward health in a supportive partnership, not a dictatorship. I love seeing people change their perspective on food, and fall in love with themselves again, it's a true gift to help someone find their confidence and health! I offer a number of supportive services including healthy weight loss & lifestyle group programs, private nutritional assessment, one on one coaching, meal planning, workshops and more! Healing isn’t a straight line

It moves in spirals.

You may find yourself back in a familiar conversation.
A familiar trigger.
A familiar ache.
A familiar pattern.

Maybe something you told yourself you wouldn't do again.

Pause before assuming you’ve failed.

You’re not starting over.
You’re returning with more capacity.

More awareness.
More choice.
More support in your system than you had before.

Integration can feel like repetition —
but slightly softer.
Slightly steadier.
Slightly less overwhelming.

That subtle shift matters.
We build capacity in layers.

Consent is a critical pillar of therapy.

But consent isn’t just a signature on a form.

It means you have agency around what you share.
What you explore.
And when.

You don’t owe your practitioner more than you are willing and ready to offer.

You can say no.
You can pause.
You can change your mind.

Questions and feedback aren’t defiance.
They’re participation.

And it’s completely valid to say,
“I’m not there yet.”

Willingness matters.

Because without willingness, consent can quietly turn into compliance.

And therapy should never require compliance.

We can logically know and understand our stories.

We can explain it.
Analyze it.
Contextualize it.

And still the system responds in the same patterns.

Many of the people I work with are deeply insightful. They’ve read the books. They know their attachment style. They can track their patterns in real time.

And yet… their body still tightens.
Their chest still braces.
Their sleep still suffers.
Their fear still flares.
Their anger still soars.

Insight is powerful.

And repair happens when the body has a new experience.

Somatic work gently bridges the gap between what you know and what you feel.

Not by forcing emotion.
Not by reliving the past.
But by building safety slowly enough that your nervous system begins to trust the present and let down its armour.

We don’t have to change all of who we are or punish ourselves for protective patterns.
We work towards the congruence of logic and felt sense so the body can pause and you can access choice.

Somatic therapy didn’t make me someone new.

It helped me come home to myself. It gave me the gift of stepping into authenticity.

It helped my nervous system learn that the past is not the present.

That fear can soften.
That boundaries can strengthen.
That tragedy can be processed without being relived.

It gave me more presence with my children.
More self-trust.
More capacity to slow down.

This is the work I offer because it is the work I believe in.
It’s the work that’s changed my experience in the world more than any cognitive modality.
It’s the relationship you build with your practitioner.
The consent based nature.
The tiny digestible micro shifts that reorganized my system over time.

Healing isn’t about becoming someone else.
It’s about becoming safer inside your own body.

Most of us learned to explain our pain before we ever learned to feel safe inside our bodies.

We became insightful. Self-aware.

And yet… our nervous system was still bracing.
We don’t yet have the skills to tolerate the distress.

Somatic therapy is not about fixing you.
It’s about listening to the intelligence of your body to build the capacity to move through discomfort.

The tightening.
The holding.
The urge to disappear.
The part that works so hard to stay in control.

These are not flaws.
They are survival strategies.

When we slow down and gently build capacity, something powerful happens.

The body begins to trust that it doesn’t have to survive like that anymore.

This is the quiet magic of regulation.
Not calm all the time —
but choice.

Resistance isn’t the problem.
It’s protection.

When something in you pulls back, shuts down, distracts, or avoids — it’s not sabotage. It’s strategy. A part of you learned that moving forward once felt unsafe.

In somatic work, we don’t override resistance.
We get curious about it.

We slow down.
We listen.
We build enough safety that what’s guarding no longer has to work so hard.

You don’t have to force healing.
You only have to meet what’s here.

Welcome!!
I’m Stephanie. I am a Registered Social Worker and therapist here in Airdrie. I own and operate Embodied Wisdom Somatics and Counselling.

I offer somatic, body-based trauma therapy for adults who often feel stuck in their heads or completely disconnected from their experience, even when they understand their story logically. It’s that sense of, I’ve done all this work, or, I know this story so well, but why does the same thing keep happening?

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful and capable, and deeply self-aware, yet still carry anxiety, depression, or patterns that feel impossible to shift, eventually becoming part of how they see themselves. I promise, you are not alone in this, and you are more than the challenges you’ve faced.

My approach is experiential, collaborative, and rooted in nervous system repair. We work with the science of change, following the patterns of the body while navigating distress and creating new experiences with old wounds. We move gently, building comfort in the body so that possibility and a new relationship with the self can emerge. This work goes beyond cognition alone and focuses on repairing the body’s sense of comfort and ease.

I am currently accepting new clients. I offer direct billing to most major insurance providers and am happy to provide a sliding scale for those who feel that would be supportive in their current season.

Somatic work is a bottom-up approach.

It asks nothing more of you than what you are ready to work with.
It meets you where you’re at and makes space for new experiences with old wounds along the way.

You don’t need to be good at feeling.

You only need to show up and follow the invitation of the self.

Somatic work is bottom-up.

It doesn’t ask you to analyze yourself.
It doesn’t require you to be “good” at feeling.

It meets you exactly where you are —
and waits there with you.

From that steadiness, something new becomes possible.
A softening where there was bracing.
Choice where there was survival.
Light where there was contraction.

You don’t have to force healing.
You only have to follow the invitation of your own system.

Regulation isn’t being calm and relaxed all the time.

It isn’t floating through life unbothered.

Regulation is the ability to stay in relationship with yourself
when your system perceives threat
and old patterns come online.

It’s emotional flexibility.
It’s noticing the surge of defensiveness, shutdown, urgency…
and having just enough space to choose differently.

Not perfectly.
Not instantly.

But consciously.

True regulation gives you access to choice.
And choice is where repair lives.

This work isn’t about becoming untriggered.
It’s about becoming resourced enough to respond.

That’s the quiet magic of a regulated nervous system. ✨

There are no bad parts of you.

All of you is welcomed in our connection, and i will never ask you to filter yourself or hide.
One of the greatest gifts of this work is getting to meet and befriend many of the parts that make a unique individual.
Having opportunities to bear witness to the magic of how we move through life is the greatest privilege and honour and treating each part with kindness and compassion is a powerful thing.

I started to share my thoughts on invitational langue the other night, and realized that all of my video didn't load - sad days ( it was like 4 minutes). However, I wanted to circle back, since it is such a powerful practice.

Invitational language is the practice of allowing folx to choose what is best for them in any given moment. allowing them space to notice their own needs and follow what is best. in sessions in looks like inviting people to choose what activities they want to participate in, what position they prefer to be seated in, the level of eye contact they prefer, or even if the preference is to be seated on the floor, standing, or with their feet up the wall!

Allowing and encouraging choice begins to build our connection to ourselves, and therefore our trust in our own choices and internal knowing. I believe it has to start with the practitioner as therapy still operates within a system and it is conditioned in a culture of productivity. When we invite in choice and reflect on our own bias of what therapy should look like we move into a place of co-creation and that my friends is MAGIC!

​I’m stephanie, your Mind-Body Nutrition Expert. I am a Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant™, Registered Social Worker, Certified Eating Psychology practitioner and 200 hour Yoga Teacher.

I believe that food an emotions are deeply entwined, and when we begin to explore the roots of our challenges around food we being to understand that our challenges and imbalances are often a symptom of something else that is goin on. Gentle inquiry into the aspects and themes is a pivotal piece to creating to creating a healthy sustainable lifestyle. We can't make good choices if we don't know how, or if we believe we can't.

I work with people to help develop an understanding of their beliefs around food and finding a way to move toward health in a supportive partnership, not a dictatorship. I love seeing people change their perspective on food, and fall in love with themselves again.
