🌟 Coach Spotlight 🌟
Our coaches are the heart of Para PowerPlay. Meet one of the people making a difference in our athletes’ journeys every day. - Matt McPhail 🏒🙂

"I grew up in New Brunswick and started playing hockey as young as I can remember. I was fortunate enough to play AAA hockey in minor hockey, and moved on to play AAA high school hockey winning back to back provincial championships. I was asked to attend a training camp for the QMJHL Moncton Wildcats following my high school hockey career, my decision forgo this training camp and to attend University ultimately was the correct choice however hard it was to make at the time.

After University I joined the CAF and moved back to New Brunswick where I played hockey with the military. In 2015 I was posted here to 14 Wing Greenwood and continued to play hockey with the military.

I had the opportunity to start coaching when my son Jack started his career in hockey at the age of 5. I began coaching with the 14 Wing Bombers hockey club, and as my son moved on to Western Valley hockey I was able to help coaching there as well. I have helped on the ice with various hockey camps in the shoulder seasons around the annapolis Valley.

Working with Justin this season in Western Valley I became interested in Para power play and what the organization is all about. I wanted to be a part of this fantastic program for the kids in this area who are wanting to develop their skills.
Seeing the improvement and hard work these young athletes put into their training on and off the ice, and how much they can improve in such a short time is my motivation for continuing to coach and volunteer."

⭐️ Coach Spotlight ⭐️

"Matt has been involved in the game of hockey for over 36 years, developing a deep understanding and passion for the sport through every stage of his playing career. He competed at both the junior and senior levels, gaining valuable experience in high-level competition and team environments.

After joining the military, Matt continued to pursue his love of hockey, balancing service with competitive play. During this time, he represented his teams in both regional and national championships, further building his experience in high-pressure and elite-level situations.

In addition to his playing background, Matt has transitioned into coaching, working at the U15 level where he focuses on player development, fundamentals, and fostering a strong team-first mentality. He is committed to helping young athletes grow their skills, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for the game.

Matt brings a well-rounded perspective to the rink, combining decades of playing experience with a dedication to mentoring the next generation of hockey players"

⭐️ Coach Spotlight ⭐️ We’re proud to highlight Coach Nick — a dedicated leader who brings passion, experience, and a love for the game to every session. From the ice to everyday life, he’s all about giving back and helping athletes grow.

"My name is Nick and when I am not playing hockey I run my own electrical business and volunteer as a local fire fighter. I grew up playing AAA minor hockey for the Western Valley Spartans and I remember the first year I made the AAA team. The summer before the season began I had joined a power skating/skills development clinic very similar to the one Para Power Play puts on. Making the AAA team that year was due to my hard work but more importantly the power skating techniques that I had developed over that summer. Now I am excited to be a part of helping the next generation of hockey players develop their skills so that they can reach their goals as well!"

"I played minor hockey growing up and it really became an obsession in my early twenties. Since then, I have played with players of various levels, trying to improve my own skills and develop a deeper understanding of the game. With some coaching experience, I continue to learn and hope to help young players learn the game."

Day 1 in the books and what a start! 🔥🏒

Our Para PowerPlay camps kicked off with an incredible day of Power Skating and Skills Development. From first strides to sharp turns and confident puck control, the effort, energy, and smiles on the ice said it all.

We saw athletes pushing themselves, supporting each other, and building skills every single shift — exactly what Para PowerPlay is all about 💪

Big shoutout to our players, coaches, and families for making Day 1 such a success. We can’t wait to get back on the ice tomorrow!
