🌟 Coach Spotlight 🌟
Our coaches are the heart of Para PowerPlay. Meet one of the people making a difference in our athletes’ journeys every day. - Matt McPhail 🏒🙂
"I grew up in New Brunswick and started playing hockey as young as I can remember. I was fortunate enough to play AAA hockey in minor hockey, and moved on to play AAA high school hockey winning back to back provincial championships. I was asked to attend a training camp for the QMJHL Moncton Wildcats following my high school hockey career, my decision forgo this training camp and to attend University ultimately was the correct choice however hard it was to make at the time.
After University I joined the CAF and moved back to New Brunswick where I played hockey with the military. In 2015 I was posted here to 14 Wing Greenwood and continued to play hockey with the military.
I had the opportunity to start coaching when my son Jack started his career in hockey at the age of 5. I began coaching with the 14 Wing Bombers hockey club, and as my son moved on to Western Valley hockey I was able to help coaching there as well. I have helped on the ice with various hockey camps in the shoulder seasons around the annapolis Valley.
Working with Justin this season in Western Valley I became interested in Para power play and what the organization is all about. I wanted to be a part of this fantastic program for the kids in this area who are wanting to develop their skills.
Seeing the improvement and hard work these young athletes put into their training on and off the ice, and how much they can improve in such a short time is my motivation for continuing to coach and volunteer."
