We often hear a lot about how many words a child should be saying at a certain age, but words aren’t the whole story.
Before children talk, they communicate non-verbally—and those early gestures are important!
By around 16 months, children are expected to use about 16 different gestures to communicate (pointing, waving, showing, giving, etc.).
This graphic gives you an idea of what to look for.
