I am also a certified Death Doula and will work holistically with you and your loved ones during your end of life journey using compassion, empathic support and professionalism to encourage your wishes and preferences for your best transition into the spiritual world. YOU’RE THE GHOST

There’s a part of the grieving process,
where your soul kind of leaves your body too.
As though it’s off searching for the one you lost,
somewhere in the ether.

You walk around,
doing all the right things,
putting one foot in front of the other,
living,
but it’s really as though you’re the ghost.

Perhaps you are.
Perhaps your soul searches,
until you find the one you miss,
and they tell you to go back and live.

So, when that numbness passes brave one,
maybe it’s time to do what you are told,
go back and live,
twice as hard.

You don’t belong there in the ether,
nor do you need to search for the one you lost,
they find you.
And when they do, you’ll feel it.

An interesting perspective

An interesting perspective

It’s counterintuitive to not feed the people you love. Food is a gesture of nourishment, a gesture of love, and one of the most fundamental ways that we care for ourselves and others.

Food is life sustaining. We consume because it is the fuel that keeps us moving. Consider then, that a body with only days left to live may not need fuel anymore. Consider that it may actually be difficult for the body to know what to do with it once death becomes imminent. Once life is no longer sustaining.

Death doesn’t happen quickly, like the switch of a light.* But rather slowly, the way a train takes a mile to stop. When the digestive tract has slowed its mechanism, food is burdensome. It is no longer supportive.

We share this because we’ve heard many stories of family members who have guilt over VSED (Volunarily Stopping Eating and Drinking) at the end of their loved ones lives. We want you to know that you don’t need to feel guilty for that. It is by design, it is what the body needs for it’s final dance.

*This context assumes a “natural” or illness related death where someone is dying in a bed. We consider “fast death” to be the tragic, accidental and unexpected kind, and “slow death” to be hospice / illness related. Fast death is more of a light switch, slow death is more of a train.

For those who are interested

Although our classes are about human loss, we so often find ourselves weeping over the loss of our animals. They are family and friend alike, and with a lifespan that is a fraction in length to ours, we are bound to loose them. For children, pet loss is commonly the first death.

We are hosting this class for free because we love animals so much. We see you losing them all the time. We will never be able to diminish the sorrow, because sorrow is made out of love. But we can offer some direction and support, a hearty attempt to convert what is scary to what is sacred.

You don't need to register to join, as the zoom link is public. It is posted in the comments below as well as in our instagram bio. Just join us online at 7pm on 7/27 for an hour. Invite anyone who might benefit from an hour dedicated to this topic. See you there.

Finding my son as he is now, knowing he isn't gone, just here in a different way... it changed everything. 💚

When my yellow Lab died last spring, I was flattened by an overwhelming sadness that’s with me still. And that’s normal, experts say, because losing a pet is often one of the hardest yet least acknowledged traumas we’ll ever face.
