There were a few days of rain here last week.
As the rain drops fell on my head- wetting my hair, leaving tiny rivers down my glasses, and making all the dirt in my yard one of my very worst enemies; I thought to myself how much I really don’t like the rain. How it was a pain in my butt, and downright annoying on every level for me. I Absolutely, became grouchy, because it was raining, and I despise those annoying teeny rivers on my glasses, and the mess it makes of my hair, and the unwanted treasure map created on my floors from little feet. I again thought, I do not like the rain.
After it stopped raining, I was again outside ( our ’pupper’ enjoys exploring so much that nothing can keep her in the yard other than constant eyes on her) and noticed the beautiful ’pop’ of colours on each rock. I couldn’t help but admire how beautiful it was to see all those bright colours come alive in my rock garden and think how they only really ‘shine’ after they’re rained on.
And then it dawned on me, how much joy the after affects brought my heart. How, all those little pieces of magic, wouldn’t be possible without the rain I dislike so much.
It brought me full circle- the realization that I may not like the rain because I find it annoying, because it adds more to my plate, AND still, it is necessary to all things that I love!
I found the wisdom in the rain.
The wisdom that although we may not like certain things, or doing certain things- they are essential to other things that we need, love, or admire.
Many people don’t like cleaning ( and yes, I know, some of you really do enjoy cleaning🤪) yet it would make us sick to eat off dirty dishes, or have unclean hands touch the food we eat.
It may be annoying to have to go to work, and can still be necessary to survival in a world where the cost of living only increases.
Working through emotions and feelings is hard and painful, but the payoff brings inner peace and true happiness.
Balance.
The balance of the scales- you cannot have one without the other.
I will suggest, however, that just because we may not like something, does not mean we can’t find ways to enjoy it!
My challenge to you- is to think about something you don’t like, then think about how/ why it’s a necessary evil. BONUS points if you can find a way to enjoy it!
👇🏼 I’d love to hear what you come up with, and how the challenge goes for you!!! 🫶🏼
