Sending some love over the holidays to anyone feeling lonely, overwhelmed, or a little blue.

Just know there are definitely people out there — including me 😉 — who care about people in general, and that includes you!

December can be a tough time for many, and I know what it’s like when your brain plays games with you.

I’ve lived with depression since I was 19, and I just turned 61.

Thankfully, meds and support have made the last 20 years pretty amazing for me — and I’m grateful every day for that.
I've never felt a stigma attached, so no issues discussing it, it's a medical condition and nothing more!

My door is always open if you need to chat.

I mean… send a DM — don’t actually come to my house 😄😉
(Just kidding.)

🧩 ICS Myth #47 — “Planning, Logistics, and Finance grow from the top down.”

Not quite.

In the real world, most Type 5 and Type 4 incidents don’t start with Section Chiefs.
They start with people doing work.

The IC might hand out tasks like:
📋 “Track who’s here.” (Planning)
📦 “Grab radios and lunch.” (Logistics)
💰 “Write down hours.” (Finance/Admin)

Those aren’t sections — they’re functions.
ICS grows from the work, not from the titles.

If the incident expands, those same duties evolve into units, then sections.
That’s modular ICS — simple, scalable, and real-world.

👉 Duties first. Titles later.

Personality Types vs ICS Positions

⚠️ Warning: There is NOTHING scientific about this post 😉 — just a Rebel’s coffee-fueled thought experiment.

ICS is designed to be flexible — the structure supports the incident, no matter who is filling the role. That’s the beauty of it.

Years ago, in my Adult Education course, I discovered I had a learning type. It totally changed the way I taught, and the way I understood information. So, I was thinking about personality "types," and wondering if anyone's ever considered or discussed how they affect various ICS positions. (Best fit for the job kinda thing!)

When people understand their own personality type, they may discover where they naturally fit best:

Type A? You’ll feel at home making quick calls as IC or OSC. (100% not me!)

Type B? Your calm, steady presence makes you a great Liaison or Safety Officer. (A little bit of me!)

Type C? Planning or Finance may be your playground — details matter there. (Me for sure!)

Type D? Logistics might be your sweet spot — reliable, resourceful, making things happen behind the scenes. (Also me! 😆)

👉 The key: ICS doesn’t lock you into a box. Anyone can learn to operate in any role.
But knowing your strengths and style might help you find the niche where you shine.

That’s not just good for you — it’s good for the team, too.
