Clients often share in our first meeting that they don’t know where to start. That makes sense, and yet, I like to acknowledge that they’ve already taken the hardest, most courageous step: reaching out

Reaching out and seeking support can often be the alchemy someone needs to start their journey of change and healing ✨🌻🙌

So for those clients who don’t know where to begin, I’m happy to share virtual availability this coming Thursday and Friday, and in-person sessions available on Friday at the lovely office in Burnaby. And here are your literal first steps into the beautiful office.

🌻 if you’ve been thinking of taking that first step, connecting for a first session or free 15-minute consult, please consider this your invitation.

Sharon Salzberg wrote, ‘You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.’✨

The whole wide universe ❤️

So, why is it so darn hard to love and accept ourselves? We love others so freely - our partners, friends, family members, our pets, but when we look in the mirror we fail to give ourselves the love and kindness that we deserve.

Perhaps it’s a practice or pattern we’ve learned to try to protect or punish ourselves, but maybe it’s time to recognize that this narrative no longer serves us.

So, what do you say? Can we rewrite our love story with ourselves?✨

For just a moment or two, I invite you to hold space for yourself with love and kindness✨
perhaps right now or tonight when you cozy yourself into bed✨rest your hands gently over your heart space✨begin to tune into the soft gentle rhythm of your breath✨perhaps you notice the gentle rise and expansion as you breathe in✨and the gentle fall as your exhale, relaxing your body✨in your relaxed state, and with kind intention towards your being, start to repeat✨

May I be filled with lovingkindness

May I be safe from inner and outer dangers

May I be well in my body and mind

May I be at ease and happy

May I be filled with lovingkindness
May I be safe from inner and outer dangers
May I be well in my body and mind
May I be at ease and happy

Try repeating these phrases and as you do, imagine wrapping yourself in a warm, cozy blanket of kindness, warming your body and your heart✨you might try saying to yourself, “You are loved and you deserve love; today I choose love ❤️ ~darling, I see you and give you my love”

If self-love and self-compassion are WIP for you, I hope you’ll join me online Friday, February 13th for Love Letters to Past Yous 📝

When we’re caught in shame, we often forget we’re not alone in our struggles. But self-compassion gently reminds us: we all stumble, we all hurt, and we all belong. 💗

If you’re feeling isolated today, take one small step—place a hand on your heart, and remind yourself of your humanity.

I'm so very excited to invite you all to Love Letters to Past Yous

Join me on Friday February 13th from 12-1:30 pm via Zoom for a workshop designed to practice of self-kindness and love.

If you often feel hyper-critical, burnt out, or overwhelmed, constantly chasing new goals to “fix” your body or mind, or forget to acknowledge your past accomplishments and the ways you’ve navigated life’s challenges, this workshop is for you.

Self-kindness and self-compassion are skills you can develop. Together with Brit (she/her, that's me!), Registered Clinical Counsellor, you’ll be guided through writing a letter to a past version of yourself, practicing slowing down, recognizing your growth and resilience, and offering love, compassion, and gratitude to all your past selves.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with new insights about yourself and a practical blueprint for being kinder to yourself moving forward.

Sometimes, the most comforting words are the ones we give ourselves.
When life feels overwhelming or we’re searching for reassurance, cultivating a kind and compassionate inner voice can be transformative. Instead of looking outward for the perfect words, pause and ask: What do I need to hear right now?

Whether it’s “I’m here for you,” “I care about you,” or “It’s okay to be imperfect,” these words can soothe and strengthen us.

Gosh, self-taping is awkward, but 'fit' between you and your therapist is really important in therapeutic work. In fact, in research about the effectiveness of therapy the most impactful variable is the relationship between counsellor and client. So, here's a little about me and how I work. If you think we could be a good working fit, feel free to connect for a 15 minute free consult. Link to book in comments.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Maybe all you want for Christmas is a counsellor to support you in 2026?!

Hello! My name is Brit (she, her) and I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia.

I’m happy to share that I am working in partnership with a lovely collective here in Burnaby called Tulua Collaborative Health offering counselling services virtually and in-person!

As of January, I have online availability Thursdays between 10 am and 4 pm and in-office availability Fridays between 8 am and 2 pm.

I have experience supporting individuals and folks in relationships navigating stress, burnout, trauma, anxiety, attachment injuries, perinatal mental health challenges, substance misuse, and shame-based patterns.

As a therapist, I help clients understand their inner experiences with compassion and clarity, offering a grounded, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive approach.

If you’re feeling stuck and are looking for someone to help untangle experiences and feelings🧶, I’d be so honoured to meet for a 15 minute free consult to see if we’d be a good working fit. Link to connect below and in bio🌱

'That we may learn to bear the beams of love.'

For many people, this sounds lovely, but feels much harder in practice.
When your relational blueprint is built around pain and self-protection,
letting yourself soften, open, and be seen without armor, explanation, or defense can feel absolutely terrifying.

But what else are we here for if not to be seen, known, and loved?
If not to soften our armor enough to see and know our own true selves,
and to learn how to share them with the world.
To truly see others in their struggles and triumphs and to know that we are not ever truly alone?

Because when we feel connected to something larger,
when we step off of the island and into relationships that offer nourishment,
growth, and purpose,
the kind that stretch us in ways we didn't know were possible, while still providing care and connection,
life changes.

We change.
In ways that cannot truly be described.
We not only feel safer inside, but we become safer.
Freer, and yet more grounded than we knew possible.

If learning to let yourself be seen and truly loved is part of your work in the coming year, the Cycle Breakers 12 month program can help.
If you're still on the fence, I'll be doing a live Q&A session on Zoom on Friday, December 26th. Sign up at the link below and I'll send you the link to join. You can just listen or ask questions (and get to know me a little better before you commit 🙂)

A reminder that therapy and medication are not the only way mental health conditions are treated. Yes, these interventions are helpful, especially in severe cases of psychological distress. However, there are various other ways we can take care of and improve our mental health (especially in the form of preventative measures)

On my page, I try my best to inform on all these areas of mental wellness. I hope that education and self-awareness on these topics helps in some small way.
Which of these do you hope to focus more on in the next few weeks?

Take care of your mind and body. Love, Nawal ♥️
