I'm originally from Nova Scotia and moved to British Columbia in 2007. Being far away from home, I wanted to build a life I was proud of and follow my purpose, which led me to Holistic nutrition. I have always been fascinated with how the mind and body are interconnected. They have a powerful relationship between our mental and physical health, where thoughts, emotions, and attitudes can directly influence the body's physical state and vice versa. For example, when you're stressed or anxious, your body may respond with physical symptoms like headaches, muscle tension, or an upset stomach. If the body is nourished with proper nutrition and adopts positive lifestyle habits, your overall well-being will be balanced. After understanding that a lot of health issues stem from poor food choices and lifestyle, I wanted to change my own lifestyle so I could live a life with purpose and meaning. Developing wellness habits as a hospitality professional working in the restaurant industry is essential for staying sharp, energized and grounded throughout the shift.

Often, industry people forget how important it is to take care of their own health, which can lead to burnout, overconsumption of alcohol, and lack of sleep.

I’ve experienced it firsthand.

Neglecting my health eventually led me down an unhealthy path, resulting in preventable injuries and even a benign tumour under my left armpit.

After the tumour was removed, I made it my mission to help other hospitality professionals take charge of their health and wellness so they can show up as their best selves.

The byproduct is being more present with your loved ones and more respectful to your co-workers!

The importance of resting when injured!

Many of us will push through the pain and tightness , because when we’re not working we don’t get paid.

But unfortunately injuries can lead to deeper tissue damage and longer recovery times.

Giving your body even a short window to recover allows inflammation to settle, tissues to repair, and your nervous system to recalibrate.
