Nature walks are a great time to comment on the things you are seeing, doing, and hearing! Talking about what you are doing and narrating your day is a great way to expand your child’s vocabulary and help them learn new words and phrases. Next time you go for a walk, find 5 things to comment on and have fun pointing out new things with your child 🌸

Wind up toys can be great toy in speech therapy to help little ones become interested and work on requesting and commenting. These are great for practicing saying more to request playing with it again. We can use the word and the sign for more as we play!

These squishy monsters have been a hit with preschool age kids and school aged kids in speech sessions. They are great for modelling language as we hide the monsters and describe how they are the same and how they are different. Kids are always excited to get them to light up too!

Using quick games in speech therapy makes sessions fun and engaging. Games that pop are always popular and kids pick them again and again. This week I’ve been using this barbecue game to practice r sounds like grill, grab, barbecue, reach, roast, char, and fire. It’s a super fun game to have in your repertoire!

As a speech-language pathologist, I always love to find fun and accessible ways to help children build their communication skills. Play is a natural way for children to learn. It's how they explore the world, practice problem-solving and build social skills. Play helps to create a fun environment to...

A favourite toy of mine is the farm toy and kids love it! I use it with children from the ages of 2-5 and I've even had some 7 year olds request to play with it. This allows for great language modelling opportunities. We can work on following directions, play skills, building our sentences and expanding our language. Ideas on the blog today for using a farm toy in speech therapy! https://wix.to/u2aa0rJ

Today was all about toys for Easter! Some of my favourite toys fit well in an Easter theme and I couldn’t resist pulling them out for sessions today. We worked on vocabulary, expanding phrases and multisyllabic words. So much fun in sessions today with my bunny friends!

I got to use some of my favourite toys for early language clients yesterday! We played with the farm toy and a pop up toy. Farm animals are great to practice fun sounds with little ones who aren’t talking yet or only have a few words. We made animals noises, and hopped our animals around the pond and tree.
Vocabulary to model: moo, cow, bah, sheep, oink, pig, hop, on, in, open, close, spin, apple, fish, swim
They loved it and soon we were imitating each other and adding new words to our vocabulary.

New blog post today talking about the importance of having fun in speech and letting kids be creative in their play. We can practice speech sounds in a way that keeps it fun for the child and keeps them engaged so they can keep practicing outside of sessions. Today we used trains to build a ramp and let the train fly down the stairs while we practiced our clear S and Z sound. More info on the blog.

Today was such a fun day in speech. In my sessions, I let clients choose which game they want to play and we can build their target sound into the game. We were practicing our S and Z sound in speech today at the end of words and my client wanted to play with the train set. I have a wooden train tra...
