Sunday: A Day of Rest?

I can't remember when Sundays stopped being a day of rest for me. Somewhere between high school, university, and starting my own business at 23, it just... stopped happening.

And I know I'm not the only one. Pretty much every woman I know is near capacity, dismissing her own stress because it's nothing special compared to everyone else's.

In our hustle culture, fast-paced lives, and the drive to be productive 24/7, women especially, seem to have lost the art of rest. Myself included.

We're powering through, often ignoring our bodies cues, and trying to maintain the same energy as we had in our 20's and 30's - even as our bodies change from the inside out. Literally.

The double bind is real.

It's easy to say, "Take time off". But we know it's not as simple as that. Nor does a spa day, eating a salad, or hitting the gym cut it.

While all is helpful, there's so much more we're holding that doesn't get talked about, and even an entire weekend off often no longer allows for the recovery we need:

- Hormonal shifts & body changes
- Accumulated weight of loss and grief
- Sleep challenges & lowered energy
- Anxiety and worry over the state of the world
- The challenges of asking for (and receiving) help
- The pressure to hold everything, and everyone, around us together
Look at the below image. It shows some of what you're carrying.
But even this doesn't capture it all.

I'm not here to tell you to "rest more", as I truly know how hard that can be.

BUT, I invite you to name what's real, as you're likely holding way more than you think.

And that simple acknowledgement matters, and can begin to make room for something different.

REFLECTIONS

1- Look at the image below. What's real and true for you?

2- What's one thing you might be holding or doing that actually isn't necessary?

3- How might you give yourself a pause today or in the coming few days, to create space for true rest?

I had some work planned for this afternoon, but after I hit 'send', I'm going to pick up my book.

Reading in the afternoon is a luxury I rarely ever take, but the more rested I am, the more focused and efficient I can be for the work ahead. It might even turn into a nap.

Looks strange… but this tiny sensory drill helps me wake up my right brain before I train. 🧠👃

➡️ Smell activates the olfactory nerve → direct access to the brain

➡️ Helps stimulate and organize brain activity before movement

➡️ Better brain input = better movement patterns

This drill comes from my neuro-fitness therapist Denise Beatty .ca, who’s helping me address long-standing compensation patterns that have contributed to training injuries.

It turns out many of my sports and training injuries stem from layers of unconscious overcompensation - from years of asymmetrical activities like playing flute 🪈, one-sided dominant sports, and a T-bone MVA that left me with a serious and undiagnosed concussion. 🤕

The body adapts. The brain compensates.

And sometimes the work is simply helping the brain reorganize, before we can get back to regular training.

A moment to reconnect with YOU 💖

This season can get heavy fast — the expectations, the pressures, the “shoulds,” the never-ending list. Your nervous system feels all of it and slips into survival mode.

That’s when rest, digestion, healing, and metabolism gear down… and the worries, anxiety, body tension, fat storage, and sleepless nights start to rise. Maybe the overworking, scrolling, emotional eating/drinking, overwhelm or irritability shows up too. If so, you’re not alone in that.

And that’s not the merry, peaceful or joyful experience you desire.

So, I invite you to take a gentle pause with me.

✨Take a full breath innnn. Then outttttt. Ahhh….
✨Let your eyes close for a moment.
✨Drop into your body and ask your heart:

❤️ What do you most want to experience this season?

Let the answer come softly — a whisper, a nudge — not from your brilliant thinking mind, but from the inner wisdom of your body and soul.

And whatever shows up… honour it.

Make decisions and choices that bring you closer to that experience.

This season, we’re hosting dinner for our parents, but have decided to order in from Sunterra to still be able to hit the mountains after Xmas brunch. I couldn’t be more delighted to spend the day in the mountains rather than the kitchen!

✨You have more choice than you know.
✨You matter. Your needs matter.
✨And you absolutely have permission to meet them.
