Time and time again we see examples of women criticizing and judging other women. For the choices they've made, the circumstances they've found themselves in, often the harshest are those who themselves have unresolved guilt and shame over their own past choices.

Sometimes I wonder if it's a subconscious drive to seek the approval of men, because they've learned that without that approval they aren’t safe. I think it's called internalized misogyny. Regardless, it's sad.

But it isn't new. So much so that historically, when women help other women who have found themselves in trouble, it's so remarkably noteworthy it's been written about by the great philosophers.

Allow me to introduce Plutarch (c. 46 – after 119 CE) he was a Greek philosopher, biographer, and essayist who served as a priest at the Temple of Apollo in Delphi during the Roman era.

Plutarch had progessive views regarding women's rights and education for his time. His best friend was a woman, Clea, who was a high-ranking priestess at Delphi and he wrote her many essays and stories related to his views. A common theme throughout his more feminist themed writings was to encourage women to protect each other and get an education, that this would better society as a whole.

One of the stories he wrote told of an event where, after a festival of Dionysus, a group of women (Maenads) from the city of Phocis partied so hard (as Maenads do) they wandered into the town of Amphissa, and fell asleep outdoors in the market there. This was extremely dangerous, the two cities were at war and there were soldiers everywhere.

Fortunately they were discovered first by women. Instead of shaming or punishing them, the women of Amphissa gathered around them. They guarded them through the night, covered them with cloaks, and protected their dignity from the soldiers until they woke and could be escorted safely out of the city.

The photo I've posted here is of The Women of Amphissa, an oil on canvas painting by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, that depicts the women waking up in the market.

What I love about this story is the lesson in it.

These women didn’t stop to decide whether the strangers had made good choices. They didn’t judge Maenads for their lifestyle choices (look them up). They didn't turn away and let the soldiers brutalize the women in their vulnerable state. They chose protection of their own kind over condemnation.

And Plutarch was right, when women are educated, when we take care of each other especially when it matters most, our society is better for it. If you're bored you could research this. Countries that make education easily accessible for women are more successful.

Other data indicates that when women organize to support each other, they drive significant, measurable improvements in a country's economic, social, and political statistics.

Queens. Let's make supporting other women sacred. Let's replace criticism and judgement with encouragement and support where we can.

I’m feeling incredibly grateful… and honestly, so excited.

Helping people has always been my dream. From the very beginning, I made a promise to myself that one day I would teach after reaching the level of mastery Malcolm Gladwell describes in the 10,000-hour principle. I surpassed that goal 8 years! Teaching felt like the most meaningful way to give back to a profession that has changed my life and the lives of so many others.

Since last year my dream has expanded. Being able to share what I’ve learned on international stages, and at conferences like this, is something I once only imagined. And what makes it even more special is that while I’m there to teach, I also get to learn from some of the most brilliant and inspiring minds in the world of hypnotherapy.

My heart is so full of appreciation for this opportunity. I’m proud to represent our Academy, our students, and the beautiful work we all believe in.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate two of our outstanding instructors who have been selected to present at The 39th Annual NGH Convention, Educational Conference & Exposition. Congratulations Lindy Thomson, RCH & Robin Popowich Clinical Hypnotherapist !!!!!

This is no small achievement. Each year, hundreds of professionals from around the world apply for the honour of presenting, and only a select few are chosen. Being invited to share their knowledge on this international stage is a powerful recognition of their expertise, dedication, and the meaningful impact they are making in the field of hypnotherapy.

At the Academy of Clinical Hypnotherapy, we believe our students deserve to learn from leaders who are actively shaping the future of this profession. Seeing our instructors recognized at one of the most respected global hypnosis conferences is both inspiring and deeply affirming of the standard of excellence we hold.

Please join us in congratulating them on this remarkable milestone. We could not be more proud to have them representing our community and advancing the evolution of modern, trauma-informed hypnotherapy.

✨ The future of hypnotherapy is being taught here.

Our Story

Hypnotherapy has been around for centuries, it has been studied extensively, it has been depicted in movies and hypnosis itself has been used for entertainment in the form of stage shows. Many forms of therapy utilize hypnosis without actually calling it hypnosis for fear of frightening away those who could benefit from it. Many are surprised to learn that in fact, most major hospitals have someone trained in Hypnotherapy on staff. However it is an unregulated industry, many insufficiently trained Hypnotherapists hang up shingles and take the hard earned money of those desperate for relief or a cure. When the suggestion to try it was first introduced to me, I thought it was pretty weird and reluctantly agreed to attempt a few sessions in the hopes of relief for my own anxiety disorder. Upon recognizing that it actually helped I began this journey of education and discovery; why did it work, how did it work? Eventually I came to the realization that helping people recover from anxiety, depression, PTSD, complex PTSD and any other subconscious obstacles preventing them from becoming their happiest, best selves was indeed my true calling. For over 8 years I have been doing exactly that.

So how does this work? How do I work? In addition to various psychotherapy approaches, Clinical Hypnotherapy can help you rehabilitate your brain, helping calm overactive areas of the brain and activate the areas that are under firing in turn encouraging new neural connections. I focus on the concept of “neuro-plasticity,” which means your neurons can create new pathways of communication, the more relaxed the brain is, the more plastic your brain is. This can help you develop new habits, new ways of thinking and feeling, the ability to make better decisions, and to reduce or alleviate addictive tendencies.

I have trained with some of the world's leading Neuro-Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy and Meditation Instructors, some as far away as Australia. My training is continuous, learning new techniques as new discoveries are made fuels my passion for what I do. Most of my clients are referred to me via word of mouth, because when you finally find that "thing" that changes your life in such a profound way you tell your friends.
